We look back on a golden year for Videoton FC
January
6. Videoton cement their good relationship with the Puskas Academy by taking two of their top talents, goalkeeper Bence Somodi and defender Martin Izing, and adding them to the first team squad at Fehervar, for the winter pre-season period.
11. Reserve team manager, Gabor Hartyáni talks at length about his sides chances in the upcoming spring season.
14. The disaster in the western Hungarian town of Devecser, sees Vidi players visiting the area, and the club helping four local families with financial contributions to make their lives a little bit easier.
16. Then manager Gyorgy Mezey takes part in a question and answer session on the clubs website.
17. A dog stops the training session of the second team when he enters the training pitch. A young Vidi player eventually gets hold of the young dog and the session resumes.
19. Managing Director Mark Tassy talks exclusively to the www.vidi.hu and goes in to detail on issues including the stadium and the scoreboard.
20. Istvan Garancsi trains with the first team squad and emerges first in a 7km run and 44km cycle event. Tempratures drop to freezing point!
26. The second international pre-season friendly sees Vidi emerge 1-0 winners over Slovan Bratislava.
27. Somodi and Gyurcso are part of the second division representative side, which plays a friendly game in Turkey.
28. Nemanja Nikolics becomes a Hungarian citizen on the 28th January, at a ceremony at the local council offices.
February
1-12. The clubs website travels with the first team squad to their pre-season training camp in Spain. Vidi.hu gives a daily report from the sunny location.
3. Alves and Videoton win! The local Fejér Megyei newspaper holds a survey to determine the best player. The Brazilian comes out on top to no surprise.
6. The second team also depart for their winter training camp in Austria.
9. Hungary plays a friendly match in Dubai, against Azerbajdzsán. Two Videoton players feature in the 2-0 friendly win.
18. Dr Miklos Kator leaves the club, and is replaced by Dr Tibor Kovacs.
19. The first domestic key game of 2011 is a league cup match with Paks, which ends in a 1-1 draw.
22. The winter transfer window closes with the club just missing out on signing Brazilian forward Cesar.
23. Vidi go out of the League cup, after the first leg 1-1 draw in Fehervar, sees a goaless draw in the second in Paks. They go through on the away goals rule. Paks went on to win the League cup later on.
24. Striker Sitku Illés becomes a father when his son, Sitku Zoárd is born.
March
2. Videoton beat Haladas over two matches to go through to the final eight of the Hungarian cup.
5. A league win over MTK helps Vidi further on their way to the clubs first ever league title. 9. Videoton play out a 1-1 draw away at Honved in the Hungarian cup. 12. A tremendous 5-0 away win at Ferencvaros sends out a real message to the other sides that Vidi will not be stopped in winning the league. An all round great performance gives the Budapest side no chance at all. 14. The supporters arrive at the teams training session to surprise their favourites. Delighted by their teams perfect performance at Ferencvaros, the fans give their own personal thanks. 15. Vidi progress in the Hungarian cup winning the home match 4-0, to beat Honved 5-1 on aggregate. 18. Vidi top the league table and they beat rivals Debrecen at the Sostoi stadium to confirm this. 24. Vidi hand over a cheque to the local Vasvari Pal school. The school was broken into during March, and the Videoton players were on hand to hand over 3000€.
