Videoton end the season in fourth place following a home draw

A goal from Nemanja Nikolics ensured a point at home to DVTK on Sunday.

The last two matches of the current league season were about qualifying for the last remaining Europa League place. Vidi entertained DVTK while FTC took on Paks in Budapest. A win for Videoton and either a draw or defeat for Ferencvaros would have meant Europa League football in the summer.

The game started at a fast tempo, with an Alvarez shot and a header from Zé Luis coming inside the opening 7 minutes. The visitors responded with a header from striker Futacs, to show that they had not travelled to Fehervar for just the single point. Calatayud produced a good save to deny the international striker. Goher managed to clear a Juhasz effort off the goal line to keep the score at 0-0.

Zé Luis did really well to turn on goal following a ball by Sandor on 17 minutes. The powerful front man targeted the bottom right corner from 10 meters out, but it required a good save from Rados in the visiting goal to keep that out. Vidi remained on the attack with shots from both Nikolics and Zé Luis. A powerful shot from long range by Haraszti also went wide of the post, but the teams went in at the break level.

There were chances early on in the second half, with Sandor, Nikolics and Zé Luis all trying their luck to break the deadlock. However, they found Rados in good form as the keeper dealt well with anything that came his way. Just as has been the case over the season, DVTK took advantage of a good chance, which saw Gosztonyi play Futacs in on goal, and the forward made no mistake from 14 meters to make it 0-1.

Videoton could have levelled quickly, but the home crowd had to wait 8 minutes before it came. Zé Luis fed Nikolics on 76 minutes, who from 11 meters out, shot low in to the back of the net. 1-1.

Both Nikolics and Haraszti tried to score the winner in the remaining minutes, but those chances did not end up in the back of the net. Nikolics did have two headers towards the end but neither beat Rados. Ferencvaros beat Paks 2-0 in Budapest, which meant that it was the green and whites that picked up the third qualification place. Videoton end the season in 4th place with Nikolics joint top of the goalscoring table with Paks striker Attila Simon.
