Videoton end the first training camp with a win

Goals from Kovacs and Stopira earned Vidi a 2-0 friendly win over German opponents.

The final friendly of the first pre-season camp was played on Monday afternoon against German lower-league side Wuppertaler SW. Manager Marko Nikolic chose the following side for the 15:00pm kick off: Tujvel - Nego, Juhász, Fiola, Stopira – Anel Hadzic - Pátkai, Nikolov - Kovács - Lazovics, Scepovics.

The game started with shots at both ends of the pitch that did not threaten either goal. Gaetano had the effort for the German side, while Istvan Kovacs tried his luck but there was no early goal. Lazovic took a quick free kick 6 minutes later, but a shot from Anel Hadzic ended up going out for a corner. A left wing cross from Hagemann on 19 minutes found Gaetano in the clear, but the forward hit his shot over the bar. Vidi took the lead 3 minutes later following a fine ball from Loic Nego that found Kovacs, who shot from close range into the back of the net. Vidi continued to control things following the opening goal: Heidemann did well to keep out a chance from Nikolov, while good link up play a minute later ended with Lazovic trying his luck. There was 30 minutes on the clock when another Nego-Kovacs move ended with Topal saving his side from going further behind. Five minutes before the break, a move involving Lazovic and Patkai ended with the Serbian forward with a big chance in front of goal, but his shot went wide of the post. There was still time before the half time whistle for a Patkai header to nestle in the side netting. Vidi went in at the break leading by a single goal from Kovacs.

Videoton came out for the second half without making any changes. Wuppertaler made a single change at half time. We had to wait 7 minutes for the first chance of the second period. That saw Scepovic pull away and find Lazovic, but the defenders managed to clear the danger. The German defender got his body in the way to block a shot from Scepovic, but the rebound fell to Stopira, who doubled the lead with a good goal. Vinicius came on following his lengthy injury 10 minutes later, which he suffered last year in a friendly international match between Hungary and Costa Rica. Wuppertaler substitute Saric shot from 16 meters, but it went just wide of the target. The same player again proved dangerous minutes later but Tujvel saved to keep the score at 2-0. The final action came from Alabas, who had a chance, but his shot was stopped by Vidi keeper Tujvel. Elvir Hadzic saw his effort saved by the German keeper. That was the final piece of action in a friendly that ended in a 2-0 win for Videoton.

The squad will travel home to Hungary on Tuesday, but they will be back on the road on Saturday for the second pre-season camp, which takes place between 3rd - 13th February.
