Alvarez scored Vidi's first ever goal at the Nagyerdei stadium. Ivanovski scored his first competitive goal in a Videoton shirt. Feczesin netted the second winning goal after his header at MTK.
Debrecen manager Elemer Kondas did not hide his thoughts in the pre-match interview. He mentioned that he had used last years league cup to give younger players the chance to show what they could do, but that they were taking the league cup series very seriously. Seven players that featured for Debrecen in the autumn league game started today's match to confirm this (Brkovic, Bódi, Varga, Tisza, Korhut, Szakály, Jovanovic).
Filipe Oliveira was the last Vidi player to score at the old stadium in the 5-1 win, which was also in the league cup. There was not too long to wait before another Videoton player found the back of the net at the new Nagyerdei stadium after 8 minutes. The 7th minute saw a Balogh cross to the far post for the arriving Tisza, whose shot was blocked, which was followed up by a quick counter attack that ended with Morozov bringing down Ivanovski inside the area.
Alvarez stood up to take the resulting penalty, hitting his shot with composure to make it 0-1. There were some battles going on around the pitch in the minutes that followed. That resulted in four yellow cards being produced by the match official inside a half an hour. Morozov handled a cross from Oliveira on 31 minutes, which resulted in the second penalty being awarded to the visiting side. This time Mirko Ivanovski powered home the penalty with plenty of power to make it 0-2. This was the first goal in a competitive match for the Macedonian who arrived during the winter. Six minutes then passed by before referee Ando-Szabo again awarded a penalty. A ball in towards the goal struck Heffler in the face, but Debrecen were given the penalty, which Mihelic converted to bring his side back in to the match. (1-2). The teams went in at the break with Vidi enjoying the advantage.
There were less fouls in the second half, with flowing football being played on the pitch. Dutch player Lujickx was forced to come off with an injury on 52 minutes. Pajac then beat his marker in a one on one before shooting at goal from a tight angle, which produced a good stop from Verpecz. Brkovic found himself with a good chance on goal after 55 minutes following a corner, but the Debrecen player ended up hitting the ball wide. He was on hand a minute later at the other end to block a Pajac shot. The 58th minute saw Tisza with a big chance, but the ball was cleared for a corner in the last moment. Vidi keeper Horvath then pulled off a good save to deny Balogh from scoring in the 64th minute. The pressure by the home side increased in the remaining minutes of the match. They did finally level the score at 2-2 when Sidibe slotted the ball in to the empty net. However, there was a final twist in the game when Pajac was floored inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Feczesin confidently scored to give Vidi a 2-3 away win. That gave the forward his second deciding goal in a game following Saturday's winner at MTK.
Vidi will take a goal lead in to the second leg in Szekesfehervar on the 21st April. Videoton are next in league action on Saturday with a visit to the Puskas Academy.
