Match Report: DVTK fail to stop Vidi as Nikolics sets another record

Vidi beat DVTK after a period of two and a half years. They continue to lead the table after 9 matches with a 100% record.

In perfect early autumn weather, 5000 were present to watch what many had described as the match of the autumn at the Sostoi stadium. Both teams went in to the match with an unbeaten record, with Vidi having won 8 out of 8 and the visitors 5 out of 7. Joan Carrillo kept the same side from last week, while visiting boss Tomiszlav Szivics lined up with a two forwards.

A flick on from Sandor proved the first chance of the game, while a corner from Gyurcso on 7 minutes caused more problems. Calatayud saved well from a Bognar free kick a couple of minutes later. Takacs headed wide after a cross from Okuka after 14 minutes.

Halfway through the first half saw first Oliveira with a shot and then Simon with his head end up with the ball going over the bar. Egerszegi at the other end sent his chance just wide of the right hand post. Nikolics tried his luck from 18 meters out on 26 minutes, which brought a save out of Rados in the visiting goal. The keeper was on hand to save from the forward from close range. The next chance came a minute later, when Rados collected the ball ahead of Nikolics from a Gyurcso cross.

Sandor's ball on 39 minutes played in Nikolics, but the match official blew for offside with Nikolics well placed, and the decision was incorrect. The final chance in the first half came from a Gyurcso corner, which saw Juhasz arrive to flick on, but the ball escaped both the net and Nikolics at the far post. The two sides went in at the break with the score at 0-0.

Rados punched away a cross from Oliveira on 49 minutes, before Szolnoki's cross was flicked on by Juhasz, and Oliveira could have headed inside the box, but the ball ended up in the hands of Rados. Vidi then took the lead on 55 minutes: Oliveira sent a high ball in to the middle from the right, Nikolics with his back to goal, showed good movement to make space and send a right footed shot in to the back of the net to make it goal number 11 of the league season. It was also the 5th goal that Nikolics has scored against DVTK, making him the highest scorer in history against the Miskolc side (1-0).

The visitors did everything they could to get the equalising goal. Barczi and Husic were active, with the former shooting and the latter trying his best with crosses. Gyurcso received a good ball on 69 minutes on the right, and he showed good skill, before shooting with his left, but the shot was blocked by a defender, with Oliveira arriving to blast at goal from a tight angle, producing a very good save from Rados.

Nikolics turned well on 75 minutes following a throw in, but his shot went over, which Grumic did the same three minutes later, as his effort flew over the bar. He then scored the leveller shortly after: Bognar's corner was flicked on by Kadar, and the arriving Serbian forward scored from 4 meters out. It was the first goal that Vidi conceded in 555 minutes of league football. (1-1).

Stopira shot from the left after 84 minutes, which Nikolics just failed to reach, but the winning goal arrived two minutes later: Trebotic on the right played a good one-two with Alvarez before racing down the right and sending a low cross in to the middle, which Alves managed to put past his own keeper inside the box. (2-1.)

DVTK pushed forward towards the end, but without really creating any real chance on goal. Kovacs released Alvarez, who went on a solo run and his low shot went just beyond the left hand post. There were 4 minutes of injury time before Bognar blew for full time. Vidi deservedly won 2-1 to keep their 100% record this season and lead the league table. Videoton visit Pecs next Saturday.
