The weather compared with recent weeks was cooler, as the match kicked off with the wind blowing around the Sostoi stadium. The game against the Szombathley side, was squeezed in between two important Europa League play off matches. The Videoton squad had only arrived back to Hungary on Friday evening, giving Paulo Sousa and his coaching staff little time to prepare for these 90 minutes. With half an eye on next Thursday's return leg, the Vidi side lined up with a few changes. Several of the younger players were once again given the chance to impress, with the more senior players being rested. The first chance in the match arrived after 5 minutes, when a quickly taken free kick ended up with Haraszti's shot being saved by Rozsa in the Haladas goal. A one-two between Haraszti and Uros Nikolics, after 10 minutes, saw the latter cross for Gyurcso, who just failed to reach the ball.

Uros Nikolics and Haraszti went on to create several problems for the visitors as the game went on, with this especially being the case down the left hand side. Vidi were once again involved in a goalscoring chance 5 minutes later. First Neto's shot deflected off a defender, before Haraszti also had a similar effort cleared by the Szombathley backline. Gyurcso's free kick from 22 meters out, was well saved by Rosza, who was having a busy time in between the posts. Haladas had their first attempt on 22 minutes, with Schimmer's shot going over Bozsovics' goal. Kovacs then had a couple of long range shots towards the end of the first half, with both going inches wide of the target. Haladas broke up the rhthym of play several times in the first half. They gave away many fouls around their box, which made it hard for Vidi to direct things and score goals.

Neither manager made any changes at the break, with the pattern of play only changing by the fact that Haladas began to enjoy more possession of the ball. There were no real chances at either end of the pitch during this period. This was the case right up until the 61st minute of the match. Kovacs left his defender behind, before shooting from a tight angle on the left, which Rozsa parried in to the path of the on-rushing Gyurcso, who made no mistake from close range to give Vidi a 1-0 lead. Then barely 3 minutes later, things got even better, when Haraszti showed a burst of pace to round his marker, before playing the ball in beautifully for Gyurcso to connect with, making it 2-0 to the home side.

Just when things seemed to appear as if very little would happen in the final 15 minute of the match, a badly timed tackle from Vidi's Roland Szolnoki, resulted in referee Ando-Szabo Sandor having no option but to send off the defender. The vistors then tried to quickly take advantage of this, and came back in to the game on 80 minutes. Rado escaped down the left, before sending in a cross, which was headed in by Andorka at the far post, to make it 2-1.

There was excitement left in the match in the closing moments. Haladas could have levelled things in the 92nd minute. Halmosi's corner ended up at the feet of Iszlai, but Bozsovics produced a good save to ensure that Vidi picked up all three points. The win nicely sets things up for Thursday's 2nd leg tie with Trabzonspor. Videoton's performance also warranted all three points, with only the sending off to Szolnoki, making things nervous for Vidi towards the end.
