MOL Vidi FC won 1-0 away at Taksony in the Hungarian Cup on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hungarian Cup round 9, first leg game between Taksony SE and MOL Vidi FC was played in Dunaharaszti on Wednesday afternoon. Vidi's opponents went into the game sitting in 7th place in the third division. Their league season kicks off in the beginning of March so this was their first competitive game of the year. There was a good crowd present at the home of Dunaharaszti MTK for this cup tie. The main stand was occupied by enthusiastic supporters who had a drum and even a siren!
First half - Vidi had more of the ball and created several chances, with the home keeper in fine form.
Just like in earlier cup games, Marko Nikolic fielded a strong side for the game. The difference in leagues could be seen from the first minute as Vidi enjoyed plenty of possession. The ball was mainly in the opponents half but Taksony defended heroically. Vidi won several corner kicks in the first half and set pieces were always a source of attack. The 25th minute saw Kovacs play in Scepovic, who found Nikolov inside the box, but the midfielder sent his left footed shot wide of the post. Nikolov was again in the action a few minutes later with a goalscoring chance. However, his effort went wide. Patkai sent in a cross on 31 minutes for Huszti to meet at the far post, but his shot was blocked. A cross from Kovacs 5 minutes later was flicked on by Futacs, but keeper Ivancsics produced a fine save to deny the header. Vidi remained on the attack and Hangya sent a shot from a tight angle at goal, but again Ivancsics was well placed to deal with it. A Hangya cross before half time was headed at goal by Futacs, but again the keeper did well to tip the ball over the bar.
Second half - Taksony SE dealt with the pressure until the 78th minute
The second half started with a chance for Taksony: Tujvel saved a header from Gyori after a cross from Szilagyi. The 58th minute ended with Kovacs finding Scepovic inside the box with his cross, and the forward controlled the ball before shooting over. Another very good save from Ivancsics followed in the 64th minute. This time a header from Juhasz was saved by the home keeper. A minute later and Patkai shot from 16 meters at goal, but with the ball heading just below the crossbar, Ivancsics again tipped it over. It was a fine display in goal from the former PMFC keeper. Another two minutes passed and Taksony had a shot that was saved by Tujvel. Nikolov had his third chance of the game after 68 minutes but his shot from 9 meters was again saved by Ivancsics. Ten minutes passed and the breakthrough came: Juhasz headed a Taksony corner away and Hangya took the ball 50 meters before playing Kovacs in, who found Hodzic who made no mistake to find the back of the net (0-1).
There were no further goals in the final 10 minutes: Armin Hodzic's goal gives Vidi a first leg lead to take into the second leg at the MOL Arena Sosto on the 27th February.
