Vidi travel to Debrecen for an important league game

Another three important league points are up for offer when Vidi make the trip to Debrecen at the weekend.

Another difficult game awaits manager José Gomes and his Videoton side on Sunday. A journey east to last season's champions Debrecen lies in store. Loki, as they are also known, currently sit in 6th place in the OTP league table, with Vidi last winning away at their stadium 12 years ago, thanks to a single Balazs Beko goal, which saw Vidi win 1-0 back then. It has not been a happy hunting ground ever since, which is why a win on Sunday would go a long way to not only improving the statistics against them, but further cement Vidi's place in European competition in the coming summer.

Last season's league and cup winners have played 15 league games over the autumn season, which saw them close the first half of the season in third place, picking up 25 points at the same time. That was the same points as Vidi but Debrecen won more games. They have shown inconsistency so far in the spring season. That has seen them win 4, draw 3 and lose 4 matches, which has resulted in them slipping down to the chasing pack.

Vidi meanwhile are top of the league form table for spring, having won 7, drawn 2 and lost 2! With Gyor sitting at the top of the league table, and through to the cup final to face Debrecen, it now looks certain that they will be playing Europa league football in the summer, independent of where they finish in the league table. Loki made it in the Hungarian cup final without facing first division opponents, as luck favoured them in the cup draws! Defeat in the cup final to Gyor would still see them on the international stage come the summer. So there is all to play for with three important points the prize for José Gomes and his side.
