Match Report: Videoton ease through to the next round

Videoton scored six goals as they beat county league side Mako in the Hungarian cup on Wednesday.

Round 7 of the Hungarian cup saw Videoton make the journey south to face Mako on Wednesday afternoon. A place in the last 32 was on offer as Vidi lined up against the local Csongrad county league division one side. There was a place in the starting line-up for 18 year old Sandor Kovacs. Several Videoton supporters made the trip from Szekesfehervar in the hope of seeing goals and their favourite side progressing through.

Vidi started the game brightly and were ahead within 5 minutes. A cross from Oliveira was headed into the back of the net by Feczesin to make it 0-1. A free kick from Bodi on 13 minutes ended with the ball being curled in to the left corner to increase the lead (0-2). Videoton were directing things as was expected and the early two goal lead gave the side a base to build on. There were chances for Stopira and Feczesin, but the home side caused a surprise when they scored to get back into the game. A quick attack after 26 minutes ended with Szell scoring (1-2).

A volley from midfielder Istvan Kovacs went over the bar as Vidi pressed for the third goal. There was no mistake when Nego found Kovacs, who went on a run past the home defender and he played in Feczesin, who calmly placed the ball into the bottom right corner from 11 meters (1-3). The first half came to an end when Kovacs scored a fine goal. He eased between the defenders and shot low to the right corner to make it 1-4!

There were changes at half time with Vinicius, Stopira and Feczesin being replaced by Varga, Lenart and Bevardi. The latter needed 10 minutes to extend the lead for the visiting team. Varga hit a high ball, which was headed home from 5 meters out to make it 1-5.

The lead increased on 63 minutes when a close range shot from Bevardi was saved by the home keeper, but the rebound fell kindly to Poloskei, who made no mistake to head home and make it 1-6. Vidi had plenty of possession for the remainder of the game, but the enthusiastic home side hit a couple of counter attacks. They went close when Richard Varga hit his effort wide of goal and a shot at the other end from Sandor Kovacs was saved by the keeper.

Videoton comfortably made it through to the next round. They are next in action on Saturday, when they travel to Budapest to face Vasas.
