Vidi head off to Poland for a friendly game

Rakow Częstochowa is 100 years old this year, and our Polish friends will return to their home stadium after 893 days, so they will be playing their first match in front of a crowd against MOL Fehérvár FC - and it will also be the farewell match for the legend of the red and blues, Piotr Malinowski.

Our players met at 7am at the MOL Arena Sósto, before the Vidi bus left for the GAT-terminal of Liszt Ferenc International Airport, from where our flight to Katowice Airport will take off at 10:30am. Before take-off, our sporting director István Sallói spoke about the background to the match.

"Back in the spring, we received an invitation from Rakow, who are 100 years old this year, to celebrate their birthday with a gala match.  As we know that our fans value the friendship with Rakow, we accepted the invitation, but the epidemic situation intervened and the original date unfortunately could not be arranged. During the summer, we consulted the club again and were able to agree on the current date, not realising how difficult the situation would be. We have stuck to the agreement in a sporting manner, but we have set Imre Szabics and the coaching staff a very serious challenge.

Attila Fiola, Nemanja Nikolic, Norbert Szendrei, Péter Fodor, Stopira, Adrián Rus, Visar Musliu and Jevhen Makarenko are currently away with the national team, while Funsho Bamgboye, Szilveszter Hangya, Ruben Pinto, Emil Rockov, Dániel Zsóri and Armin Hodzic are also unable to travel with the team due to rehabilitation work. Kenan Kodro will not be risked due to a minor injury, Ivan Petryak is undergoing dental surgery, Ádám Kovácsik is suffering from conjunctivitis and Loic Nego is also unavailable in Poland for the previously announced reason. At this stage, the aim is to celebrate our opponents' birthday and the "inauguration" of their renovated stadium in a good atmosphere, and to be able to watch some of our players who have not yet had the necessary match minutes in action. Every bad thing has a silver lining, so the situation with the wave of injuries and the national team players on duty is also a good opportunity for the youngsters to play in an international match, against a team that has had a very respectable summer." - István Sallói said at the airport.
