Videoton kicked off the spring season with a good home win against the Budapest club.
Ujpest were the visitors to Videoton for the 50th time on Saturday afternoon. The two sides usually produce plenty of goals when they come up against each other. There were 7 goals in the autumn fixture for example when Videoton won 4-3. Defender Roland Juhasz was presented with a shirt to commemorate his 200th first division appearance by director of football Zoltan Kovacs.
The game did not start as planned with the lilacs going ahead on 8 minutes. Andric curled a ball in from the left into the box and Perovic sent a looping header into the far corner of the net. Keeper Kovacsik did not have a chance and the visitors went ahead (0-1). Ujpest were the more active of the two in the minutes that followed. There were 24 minutes on the clock when Vidi had their first chance. Suljic received a lovely ball from Scepovic, and his trickery put keeper Balajcza on the floor, but he placed his low shot the wrong side of the post from close range. Lazovic had a shot from 25 meters a couple of minutes later, but Balajcza saved well from the Serbians free kick.
Scepovic was on the ball after 32 minutes and he dribbled close to the goal line, before nicely playing the ball to Hadzic, who from 7 meters out, calmly stroked the ball in to the back of the net (1-1). Scepovic could have put Vidi into the lead moments later, but he curled the ball wide of the left post from 13 meters. Ujpest's Andric had a powerful shot well saved by Kovacsik in the closing minutes of the first period.
The first real action of the second half arrived after 58 minutes. Lazovic played a fine ball through to Scepovic, who kept his composure well before sending a shot between the legs of keeper Balajcza to make it 2-1 from about 17 meters out. Videoton never looked back after turning the game around and it was a question of how long before the next goal arrived. The answer was not long. Scepovic and Lazovic linked up well and the ball fell to Suljic, who found himself inside the box and another fine moment of composure resulted in it becoming 3-1 with an 11 meters shot giving the Ujpest keeper no chance.
Visiting player Diarra then complained to the match official, who had shown him a yellow card, but he persisted until the referee showed a second yellow to dismiss the player and reduce Ujpest down to 10 men. Visiting substitute Lazok had a good chance after 80 minutes, but his low shot from a tight angle from close range sailed past the goal.
Videoton put the game beyond doubt after 83 minutes. Lazovic found Scepovic with yet another great ball, and the latter beat Balajcza to make it 4-1. That was the forward's 9th goal of the season and he now leads the goalscoring table. There was still time for a fifth goal, which came after 84 minutes. Vidi debutant Mirko Maric saw his first touch find Stopira, and the left back rounded off a good afternoon's work to make it 5-1.
Vidi picked up the 3 points to remain at the top of the OTP league and now travel to Ferencvaros next weekend.
