Ujpest FC are the visitors in the Hungarian Cup on Wednesday

Ujpest FC are the visitors at the MOL Arena Sosto on Wednesday evening. The two recently met in the OTP League in Budapest, which Vidi won 1-0. They then came up against each other last week in a match rearranged in Szeged. That first leg ended without any goals. This evening a place in the last eight is at stake and Vidi will be looking to make it through. 

The lilacs, just like us, have already played three plus one match this year. They have had good fortune so far in the cup having faced one team from the NB III and two from the NB II. Those three games have produced a goal difference of 10-2. Hatvan were beaten 2-0, while Vac were defeated 3-0. They then knocked out Ajka in a game of many goals that ended 5-2 in favour of Ujpest. The first leg was organised down in Szeged and it ended in a 0-0 draw between Ujpest and Vidi. 

We first met Ujpest 47 years ago in the cup for a place in the quarter-finals. Ujpest were the best team back then having won the league seven times in a row. However, we produced a big cup upset against Dozsa. Goals from Karsai and Nagy II were enough to see Vidi go through with Fazekas scoring a consolation. We then had to wait until 2015 for the next win having met Ujpest four times in between. The lilacs went through (0-0, 2-2) on the away goal back in 1976. We also lost in the 1982 Cup final 2-0. The games in 1994 were easier with a 0-4, 0-0 aggregate before another 0-1, 0-1 two legged defeat in 2009. 

A place in the Cup final was on offer five years ago when the two met. A goal from Gyurcso saw us win the first leg. The second leg included goals from Feczesin, Oliveira and a double from Nemanja Nikolic.
