A look at NK Maribor in the transfer market

We take a look at the transfer activity of our Europa league opponents NK Maribor

Maribor ended up in second place in the Slovenian championship last season. They have been busy in the transfer market, but have mainly sold players over the last few weeks. Portuguese club CD Nacional have bought two key players from Maribor. They are Rene Mihelic and Dejan Skolnik, and the duo have cost 1.400.000 € for Nacional. The duo had been regulors for Marobor over the previous season, with midfielder Mihelic, scoring 5 times from 33 starts over the 2009/10 season.

Skolnik, who is an U21 Croatian international, is a left winger, and made 28 appearances, scoring 3 times in the process. NK Maribor brought in Brazilian Flavio Junior, during the winter transfer window. However, the club have since broken up that contract due to disciplinary reasons. Further possible departures include Jozef Aljancic, who played 28 times for Maribor last season and Dejan Jurkic, who made 8 starts. The future of Dejan Mezga is also in doubt, with the Croatian midfielder also hinting that he may be ready to leave.

Naturally, where there are players leaving a club, this will also result in new arrivals. Armend Spreco, who came through the Maribor youth ranks, has returned from a loan deal, and striker Dalibor Volas, who scored 11 times for Nafta Lendava last year, is another player to come back. NK have also brought in a player from rival clubs, including defender Aleksandar Rajcivic and midfielder Mitja Viler, who have arrived from Luka Koper. Left winger Goran Cvijanovic has also arrived from HIT Gorica. Croatian Tomislav Pavlicic is also close to signing, and he looks likely to replace Mihelic. The Croatian player was a member of the Cibalia Vinkovci team, and he found the back of the net 7 times last season.
