We visit the home of Újpest FC, who started the season with two defeats

The Budapest team and its coaching staff include several former players and coaches from Fehérvár, while Vidi's former main sponsor has acquired a majority stake in the company running Újpest

In more ways than one, a real prestige battle is expected on Sunday at 18:00 at the Szusza Ferenc Stadium in Újpest. This will be the 124th top-flight match between the two teams. Of the 123 meetings so far, we have won 51, lost 46 and drawn 26. The goal difference is 187-175 in our favour, which is a remarkable average of three goals per game. It's been more than four years since we last won at Újpest, a 5-0 triumph on 23rd January 2021, but since then we have four defeats and a draw against the 4th district.

The current badge of Újpest FC bears the year 1885, as this is when the Újpest Gymnastics Club was founded - where initially gymnastics, then fencing and athletics were the activities of UTE - and football was established in Újpest 14 years later, in 1899.

In 1901, the National Championship started in Hungary, where Újpest was promoted to the second division. The club's football team was promoted to the first division in 1905, from where it was relegated at the end of the 1910/1911 championship, but was back in the top flight a year later. Since the 1912 championship, Újpest have been in the top division continuously, becoming the Hungarian record holders.

In the summer, both teams changed a lot, with several of our players leaving for Újpest: in addition to Gergényi, Karamoko and Besé, last year's coaching staff included head coach Bartosz Grzelak, assistant coach Johan Sandahl, goalkeeper coach András Elbert and fitness coach Ádám Száraz.

András Huszti, who was on loan at Újpest last season, joined us this season, after we loaned him from his club ZTE in the summer. Although he received a red card in the opening round in Kecskemét, he served his one-match ban against DVTK, so he will be available again on Sunday for Tamás Pető. Our head coach also has purple and white ties, as he played for Újpest between 1997-2000 and 2007 and was a member of Újpest's last championship team - the last time they won the title was 26 years ago, in 1998 (in Székesfehérvár, in the Sóstói Stadion).
