Ninth placed ZTE FC visit Sóstó on Sunday

So far this season, ZTE FC have only won away at Újpest.

On Sunday, April 6, at 14:00, we will meet ZTE FC for the 96th time in the top division. Of the 95 matches played so far, 42 have been won, 28 draws and 25 Zala victories. The goal difference is 157-109 in our favour, which means an average of almost three goals per game.

Last season, Gábor Márton took over the Zalaegerszeg team in the middle of the season and finished in 9th place. The former Vidi manager stayed on for the 2024/2025 season and after 25 rounds, he and his team are in 9th place in the league with 6 wins, 8 draws and 11 defeats.

This season we played Zalaegerszeg twice: a 1-1 draw in Sóstó, the ZTE goal was scored by Csanád Vilmos Dénes, who was previously a key player of Vidi II, while our goal was scored by Patrik Kovács in the 95th minute.

The history of the two teams goes back a long time, we played Zalaegerszeg in 1958. Back then, the two sides finished 1-1 in the NB II, at Berényi út, in front of 4500 spectators. Our first NB I match was against ZTE in Zalaegerszeg in 1972, which ended in a goalless draw. The teams' first NB I match in Székesfehérvár took place a year later, in April 1973, which we won 1-0 in Sóstó with a goal by Gábor Fejes.

Our biggest success came on 19 May 2004, when our team led by János Csank scored a double from Tibor Szabó and goals from Zsolt Dvéri, Tomás Medved and Gabriel Vochin to beat their opponents 5-0, who had won the first division title two years earlier. We can also be proud of two four-goal victories against them from the past; in 1983 we beat ZTE 5-1 and in 1987 4-0.

Two of our defenders have also played for Zalaegerszeg: Nikola Serafimov between 2021 and 2022, and András Huszti, who is currently on loan at Vidi. Bence Bedi, a midfielder, arrived in Székesfehérvár in the summer of 2024 after a decade with ZTE.

For their opponents, midfielder and team captain Norbert Szendrei was a Vidi player between 2021 and 2022, and the two goalkeepers Bence Gundel-Takács and Vilmos Borsos, as well as the aforementioned Csanád Vilmos Dénes, have also worn the red and blue shirt. István Sallói, a former player and, more recently, sports director, has also been with Vidi. Gábor Márton worked as head coach in the 2020/2021 season, and their goalkeeper coach, Géza Vlaszák, was a member of the Vidi squad in the 1992/1993 season.

ZTE FC is 9th in the table with 26 points. Out of the 26 points, 19 have been picked up at home, while only 7 points have been collected away from home. They won 2-1 in Újpest, while they left Nyíregyháza, Paks and us with one point. In the MOL Hungarian Cup, ZTE FC reached the last four after beating Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC 2-0 at home on Tuesday night, and in the semi-final they will visit Paks.
