PAFC's head coach Zsolt Hornyák is the longest serving head coach at the same team in the entire NB I division. So far, we have played 16 matches against PAFC under Zsolt Hornyák, the first one was four and a half years ago, on 11 August 2019, when we won 2-0 in Felcsút, with goals scored by Szabolcs Huszti and Márkó Futács, and Vidi's head coach was Marko Nikolics. Zsolt Hornyák has a positive record against Vidi, with 5 wins, 7 draws and 4 defeats in the 16 games he has faced us.
PAFC finished the season better by one point last year as Hornyák's team finished third on the podium. Puskás Akadémia FC had perhaps the most memorable European cup appearance in the history of the club this summer in the Conference League. Although the team from Felcsút progressed without a game against SC Dnipro from Ukraine, they also played a memorable match against Ararat from Armenia and Fiorentina from Italy.
In Armenia, PAFC won 1-0, and in the return match in Felcsút, PAFC drew 3-3 after Favorov equalised from a free-kick in the 94th minute to send them through to the play-offs. There they faced the finalists of the previous two years, Italian side Fiorentina, and in the first leg PAFC led 2-0, but that meeting ended in a 3-3 draw. In the home return leg, Zsolt Nagy equalised in the 97th minute and although Zsolt Hornyák's side had a double man advantage in extra time, the Italians eventually forced a 2x15 minute extra time and went through on penalties.
Sunday's opponents also started well in the league, winning their first four matches (Újpest-PAFC 1-2, PAFC-ZTE 2-1, PAFC-Nyíregyháza 3-1, PAFC-MTK 1-0), but in the last round they lost 2-1 in Paks. In the 3rd round of the MOL Hungarian Cup, PAFC won very confidently, 7-0, last Sunday at home to Haladás.
