Vidi make it through against BVSC in the Hungarian Cup

Vidi won 5-2 away in Budapest to make it through to the next round.

On Wednesday at 12:30 pm our team were in action in Zugló, at the home of BVSC, the leaders of the NB III Western Group, in the 4th round of the MOL Hungarian Cup. Imre Szabics sent the following 11 players on to the pitch: Kovácsik - Funsho, Rus, Musliu, Hangya - Dárdai, Nego, Makarenko, Kovács I. - Zivzivadze, Nikolic, while Ákos Buzsáky's team of course included Norbert Kokenszky, who has already scored 21 goals in NB III.

After the kick off, we only had to wait until the 3rd minute to take the lead! Dárdai's corner was headed on by Makarenko, and Nikolic made no mistake from close range (0-1). A minute later, Zivzivadze's shot was saved by the home goalkeeper Kovács and then Niko curled the ball onto the crossbar from inside the penalty area. In the 8th minute, we had another chance, this time Nikolic shot from 14 meters over the goal after a cross from Hangya. Ten minutes later, Ádám Kovácsik had to intervene, as Szalánszki, who had previously made his debut in the NB I at Gyirmót, had his shot saved by the goalkeeper.

The home team calmed down a bit and closed down the areas better in the next period, but István Kovács broke the defence with a nice move in the 18th minute, and Nikolic sent his cross towards the goal, but Benedek Kovács saved. Seven minutes later, the home side also threatened, Kokenszky's 14-metre bouncing shot from the centre was gathered by Kovácsik. Then Zivzivadze launched a fine move towards the goal, but Kovács was well paced to move out of the goal. After half an hour of play, the young home keeper was also helpless when a missed clearance fell to Dárdai, who calmly slotted the ball into the net from the corner of the five-yard box (0-2). Two minutes later, Zivzivadze's 18-metre powerful strike crashed past the left post. In the 38th minute we scored our third goal! István Kovács's ball was headed out by Zivzivadze, who beat Benedek Kovács and the move was finished by Nikolic, who made no mistake from close range (0-3). The referee blew for half time with us leading by three goals.

At the break Imre Szabics made two changes, Csoboth and Kojnok replaced Dárdai and Funsho. Two players with NB I experience, Erdélyi and Fröhlich, came on for BVSC, the latter immediately turned towards goal in the 50th minute, but his shot ended up in the side netting. Ten minutes later, Zivzivadze and Nikolic tested the goalkeeper, but Kovács was on the spot both times. A minute later, however, he was helpless again when Zivzivadze's cross was met by both Csoboth and Nikolic, and our captain finished the move with a goal, which was his third and our fourth (0-4). After the goal, Budu was replaced by Kodro and shortly afterwards Lüftner came on for Rus.

In the 69th minute, our fifth goal was scored with the help of two substitutes - Kojnok's sharp centre from the right was nicely slid into the home goal by Kodro (0-5). Three minutes later, Makarenko was rested and replaced by Patrik Nyári. In the 77th minute, after a scramble from a corner, the ball bounced to Erdélyi near the five-yard box, but the former youth international did not hit the ball well and Kovácsik saved easily. A minute later, Benedek Kovács pushed Csoboth's 15-metre shot into the corner. In the 80th minute, the home team, who fought with sportsmanship, scored a consolation with a nice goal, Szalánszki scored a big goal into the top corner from a sharp angle (1-5). Six minutes after the goal, Fröhlich tried to hit the ball from 14 yards out, but Kovácsik was able to save. In the last minutes of normal time, BVSC scored a goal that was disallowed and Csoboth had a great chance, and in extra time, substitute András Fisli scored from 21 meters (2-5), and we finally won by three goals.

Next up in the cup is a match against NB II Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia, but we will have to wait until February 2022 for the 5th round of the MOL Hungarian Cup. Next up will see Imre Szabics' team play ZTE FC at 17:30 on Sunday at the MOL Arena Sóstó.
