Videoton picked up a point in the season opener at Siofok
A good crowd of around 5000 turned out for this season opener in the sunshine town of Siofok, on the shores of Lake Balaton. Videoton were up against newly promoted Siofok FC, who made things difficult in the soaring heat. It was the home team who took the lead on 32 minutes, when Somumni cut in on the right and shot low towards goal. Vidi keeper Bozsovics should have done much better as the ball slipped through his hands and under his body into the back of the net. The goal did not manage to shake Videoton too much as they struggled to find their form in the first half.
Manager Gyorgy Mezey switched things around a little at half time, and a more determined Vidi came out. Striker Vujovics was played through on the left, after 62 minutes, and he guided the ball wide of Siofok keeper Molnar, into the far corner of the net to send the 2000 plus Videoton fans into celebration. Daniel Nagy came off with what looked to be cramp after 78 minutes, with last season's top scorer Nikolics, replacing him. However, apart from a good shot by Siofok's forward, which hit the bar, there was little else to divide the two teams. So Videoton begin the season with a point away from home, but they will be looking to step things up when Vasas visit next Sunday.
