Videoton begin their Europa league campaign with a home draw in the 1st leg
It may not have been the best possible result at home, but judging by the performance of the team, Videoton are still very much in the game for the return leg in Maribor. The game began just like a typical cup match. Vidi went on the attack, but you could sense that the Slovenian side would be dangerous on the counter attack. Sadly, this proved the case, as they took the lead, with a long range effort, from their first chance. The goal appeared to shake Videoton, and it seemed for a while that they could find no way past the visiting team.
Things looked more positive in the final minutes of the first half, with Gosztonyi looking the best on the right for Videoton. Gyorgy Mezey made a double substitution at half time. This proved to have an effect as Videoton went on the attack. They were unlucky not to take the lead from the good chances that came their way. It was down to captain Gabor Horvath to help his side with the equaliser. However, Vidi could not add to this and the game ended in a 1-1 draw, which means that it is all to play for in the 2nd leg in Maribor, next week.
