Videoton suffer a single goal defeat at Paks

Paks beat Videoton thanks to a sixth minute goal from Bartha

Gyorgy Mezey's Videoton side slipped up away at Paks on Tuesday evening. The defeat means that Videoton have to wait a little longer, although they are still on the verge of the league championship, for the very first time in the club's history.

Videoton failed to break through a well organised Paks defence on Tuesday evening. Paks took the lead after only six minutes, through midfielder Bartha, and it was a lead that they managed to defend until the final whistle. Paks also showed why they are currently in the top three, and this win means they now leap frog to second place in the Monicomp league. Bartha was left unmarked and he made no mistake as he fired in from the edge of the area. Vidi were backed by a good following who made the journey south to the watch their favourites, in the hope that they would move one step closer to the dream of the first league win. That has now been put on hold, at least for a few days, with Vidi next in action on Friday, when they entertain Kecskemet at the Sostoi stadium.

Manager Gyorgy Mezey brought Polonkai back into the starting line up, choosing to put Vasziljevic on the substitutes bench. He also kept the front two pairing of Andre Alves and Laszlo Lencse. Videoton dominated most of the match, and they created the majority of chances over the course of the ninety minutes. Paks is a difficult place to get a result at, and not many will return with a win from this tight small ground. Vidi now have a ten points lead over Paks, with just five matches to play. Paks also had the chances to extend their lead, but in the end, Paks held out showing determination and the will to win, which are important ingredients in football. There were good performances from keeper Bozsovics, Sandor in central midfield and Laszlo Lencse who fought for every ball and tracked back when needed. Tomorrow sees third play fourth as Ferencvaros take on Kaposvar, with a draw the ideal result for the red and blues of Fehervar. Vidi will shake this defeat off quickly, as they recently did at Haladas, and pick themselves up for Friday's match with Kecskemet.
