Videoton suffered a 2-1 home defeat on Sunday afternoon against Fradi
There were close to six thousand inside the Sostoi stadium for this OTP League match. The Videoton players wore T-shirts leading upto the match, in sympathy with defender Stopira, who suffered a broken shin bone in the final moments of Thursday's Europa League win over Sporting. Ferencvaros brought with them the expected large away following, with Vidi fielding a fairly mixed starting line up to that which began Thursday's match. There were starts for Hector, Kovacs, Edson, Haraszti and Gyurcso, with some of the younger players getting the chance to impress manager Paulo Sousa.
The two teams tested each other in the early exchanges, with Klein trying to bring Bode into play in the second minute. However, Caneira was able to deal with the danger for the home side. Ferencvaros pressed further and took an early lead when Caneira handled inside the penalty area. Captain Jozsi sent Bozovics the wrong way to give the Budapest side the lead.
The equaliser almost came in the 7th minute, with Edson Paraiba seeing his shot saved by keeper Jova, while Gyurcso's corner was headed just wide by Caneira. Balazs Toth sent a 30 meter free kick straight at Jova after 10 minutes. The action continued thick and fast with both sides trying to play football. Bozsovics punched a corner out after 19 minutes, with Besic connecting with the ball to shoot at goal, but the tall Montenegro keeper held it well. The majority of play was mainly around the midfield areas for the remainder of the first period. The supporters had to wait until the 34th minute before the next chance arrived. It came from a Brachi free kick, which required an excellent stop from Jova. Gyurcso shot just over a few minutes later as the action continued. Brachi had the final chance of the first 45 minutes with his free kick going over the crossbar.
There were no changes to either side at the break. Paraiba went close on 48 minutes, but it was just off target. Mitrovics also saw his free kick go over as the home side looked to get back on level terms. Ferencvaros did continue to show signs that they wanted all three points. They looked dangerous on the counter attack and kept the Vidi backline on their toes. The next big chance came from Brachi after 63 minutes when his sharp cross fell to Mitrovics, who found Jova alert and agile. Bode then released Somalia on the right, and the assistant referee did not flag for offside. It needed a great save from Bozsovics to keep his side in the match. Nikolics was sent on to add some much needed fire power up front. It seemed to spur Vidi into action, with Paraiba showing his sharpness to turn inside the box, but he was pulled down, giving the match official no option but to point to the penalty sport. Defender Klein was shown the yellow card for his challenge. Niko kept his cool to send the ball wide of Jova and level the match for Vidi.
Ferencvaros went back on the attack, with Bode stepping wide on the right, before unleashing a powerful shot, which went just wide. Fradi were back in front after 74 minutes, when Bode found space inside the box, before his shot took a slight deflection off Hector, to deceive Bozsovics. The goal came at a cruel time for Vidi, who once again found themselves chasing the game.
Vinicius headed clear a 78th minute corner from Orosz, with Jozsi showing good technique to shoot just over with that effort. The game was then halted with ten minutes remaining, after a sudden big storm hit the Sostoi stadium. The high winds and heavy rain lashed down on the stadium, and referee Ivanyi took the sides off as a result. The break lasted for around ten minutes before the teams returned on to the pitch.
Bode set up Orosz who shot into the side netting after 85 minutes, while Oliveira had a great chance to level for Vidi. He shot from close range, but it hit the foot of Jova, and the visitors escaped with their lead intact. It was a tough and battling game, with Ferencvaros taking the three points, thanks to an unlucky goal. Vidi will next be in action in the League cup as the OTP league takes a break due to the international matches next week.
