MOL Fehervar FC travel south to Szeged to play the first leg tie against Ujpest on Tuesday evening.
The busy February program sees MOL Fehervar FC switch attention to the Hungarian Cup on Tuesday. Our team will face Ujpest FC in the first leg at the Saint Gellert Forum stadium in Szeged. A place in the last eight for the winners of the two-legged affair.
The Budapest club have also played three rounds so far against lower league opponents. They knocked out FC Hatvan, FC Ajka and Vac FC to reach the last 16. Those three games produced a 10-2 goal difference after a 2-0 win at Hatvan was followed up by a 3-0 success against Vac. Ajka were defeated 5-2 despite twice leading during that game.
Our opponents are currently in 8th place in the OTP league table but have yet to win in 2020. They were beaten 4-0 away at Debrecen and then suffered a 1-0 home loss to Vidi. Their most recent game was away at Mezokovesd, which ended in a 2-2 draw. However, the weekend derby match with FTC had to be postponed due to the state of the Ujpest pitch.
We first met Ujpest 47 years ago in the Hungarian Cup. Ujpest were the best side back then having won the league seven times in a row. However, Vidi pulled off a cup shock with goals from Karsai and Nagy II with Fazekas replying for Dozsa. We then had to wait until 2015 for the next success. We had met them four times in between but had lost each one on aggregate. A place in the final was at stake five years ago. The first game was won thanks to a goal from Adam Gyurcso. The second leg saw goals from Feczesin, Oliveira and a Nemanja Nikolic double doing the damage. Litauszki did pull one back for Ujpest but it was not enough. Loic Nego played in that game for the lilacs while we had Filip Pajovic in our squad.
