The 20-year-old Slovakian youth midfielder joins on a one-year loan from Spanish club Real Sociedad.
Following an agreement signed between Real Sociedad and our club on Monday, Peter Pokorny will join Vidi on loan until the end of the 2022/2023 season!
Defensive midfielder Peter Pokorny was born on the 8th August 2001 in Trenčín, Slovakia. He started playing football for the club's youth team before transferring to Austrian academy side Red Bull Salzburg in 2018. He spent two seasons on loan at Salzburg's second division side Liefering, during which time he made 37 league appearances. He also played in the UEFA Youth League for Salzburg, and was a key man in the U19 Champions League, where he helped his side reach the semi-finals.
In the 2020/2021 season, he played on loan for Austrian Premier League side St. Pölten, scoring 2 goals in 30 league and 2 cup matches. In the summer of 2021, he was bought by Spanish Premier League side Real Sociedad, who also played in the UEFA Europa League last season, from Salzburg. Here, he made 24 league appearances for the club's second division B team in the season. Interestingly, he was coached by Xabi Alonso, a world and two-time European champion league winner.
Since the U16 age group, he has played continuously for the Slovak youth national team. Since 2019, he has been a member of the U21 national team, scoring 2 goals in 20 matches and is the captain of the team.
"Vidi is a great opportunity for me to get a lot of playing time, my first impressions are definitely positive, the conditions are right, the staff and the players have been welcoming. I'm trying to get to know everyone quickly and settle into the team, I knew Kodro's name from playing in the Spanish top flight, and I have a picture with Palko Dárdai from when he played against Hertha. Another thing that will help me settle in is that, in addition to Slovak, I speak English, German and Spanish, which will certainly make it easier for me to communicate with the head coach and my fellow players. I expect to play well and be part of a lot of victories next season, I want to fight for trophies and to be as successful as possible in the European Conference League" said Peter Pokorny, who will wear the number 6 shirt for Vidi, after signing the contract.
"Peter got a very good schooling, having trained at Salzburg's academy, and for the last two years he has played regularly in the Austrian Bundesliga and the Spanish second division, as well as captaining the Slovak U21 team. He is a typical defensive midfielder, whose strengths lie in getting hold of the ball and aggressiveness in a good sense, but he also plays an active part in building up the attack," István Sallói, the club's sporting director, told our website.
