Match Report: Vidi kick off the new season with 3 points

The first game of the new NB I league season was played on Sunday evening. MOL Fehervar FC emerged 4-2 winners.

The new OTP league season kicked off at the MOL Arena Sosto on Sunday evening. The visitors were newly promoted Kaposvar. Manager Marko Nikolic made seven changes to the side that started in the Europa League on Thursday. Left out were Fiola, Elek, Huszti, Stopira, Nikolov, Scepovic and Milanov. Coming in were Rus, Petryak, Hadzic, Kovacs, Hodzic, Futacs and Hangya. The game began really well with Vidi taking a 5th minute lead: Petryak saw his shot bounce off a defender and into the path of Futacs, who shot with his left foot off the bar and into the back of the net (1-0).

The visitors came back quickly and levelled two minutes later. Vachtler's weak shot would have gone wide, but Adam stuck his head in and the ball ended in the bottom left corner (1-1).

Adam had a dangerous free kick on 13 minutes go wide of the left post. With 15 minutes on the clock, Hodzic brought a save out of Pogacsics, but he could do nothing a minute later. Hangya played the ball behind the defence, which Hadzic squared into the path of Hodzic who raced in to powerfully find the back of the net (2-1).

Vidi continued to attack after taking the lead for the second time in the game. A sharp cross in from Futacs brought a dangerous shot out of Kovacs. Hadzic was forced to come off after 36 minutes due to injury, with Nikolov coming on to replace him. There were 5 minutes left of the first half when Kovacs sent in a fine cross for Hodzic to arrive at the far post and find the net (3-1).

The red and blues could have extended their lead in the remaining moments of the first half. First Juhasz headed just wide of the goal, while Futacs flicked the ball just wide of the left post. The visitors managed to come back into the game with a second goal right on half time. Vachtler had his cross cleared but Yakymiv sent a shot towards goal, which Adam connected with and placed the ball into the bottom right of the net to make it 3-2. The two teams went in at the break with Vidi leading 3-2.

The second half started with shots from Kovacs and Petryak being blocked by the Kaposvar defenders. Then Hangya blasted wide of the goal as the action continued. Hodzic grabbed the ball on 59 minutes and curled a fine left footed shot from 11 meters, which keeper Pogacsics saved well from. The lead was extended further after 62 minutes when Nego played the ball in for Petryak to head back across goal at the far post, for Futacs to react quickest and make it 4-2 with a close range header.

Futacs then ran at goal after 69 minutes but he could not put the ball past Pogacsics who got down well to save. Patkai the had a right footed shot with the outside of his foot fall in front of Petryak, whose right footed shot was parried by Pogacsics. A Nagy free kick after 82 minutes was confidently collected by Kovacsik. Then Nagy had another chance two minutes later but he shot over. The final chance of the game came from Huszti, who shot at Pogacsics.

Vidi won 4-2 in the season opener and will travel to Puskas Academy next weekend.
