A fantastic battling display by Vidi earned them a 1-0 win to go through to face Malmo.
Vidi were up against Bulgarian side Ludogorets in the CL Q2, 2nd leg on Wednesday evening. A week after the first leg had ended 0-0 in the away leg, Marko Nikolic chose the same starting eleven.
The visitors went on the attack quickly and placed Vidi under pressure, and they had possession of the ball in the early exchanges. Istvan Kovacs got hold of the ball on 9 minutes and took the ball from the centre circle towards the opponents box with the defenders on the back foot, but he could not find the target with his shot. A Stopira cross 10 minutes later was collected by Renan, while at the same time Marko Scepovic seemed to fall to the floor suddenly.
With hardly 30 minutes on the clock, the visiting team player Vuro received a yellow card for complaining, which became a red after 40 minutes when he went down besides Juhasz, which the referee decided was not fair and a second yellow was produced.
Vidi gained possession after 42 minutes and Varga released Stopira, whose cross headed towards Scepovic, and Nego was on hand to shoot from a tight angle, but the vall came off the leg of the keeper. The resulting corner was headed at goal by Stopira from 11 meters, but Renan was equal to it and the defence managed to clear the danger. Another corner was headed out by the defender, but the ball fell to Nego who played the ball back towards Stopira, but Juhasz could not connect cleanly as he aimed for the far post. The resulting cross was headed back in by Stopira, and Anel Hadzic was well placed to flick the ball home (1-0).
The sides went in at the break with Vidi leading by a single goal. The second period kicked off with a dangerous effort from Hadzic, whose shot from 18 meters failed to hit the target. The visitors had chances with Marcelinho shooting straight into the arms of Kovacsik. Vinicius broke down the left after 66 minutes and found Kovacs in the middle, who shot from 22 meters, but Renan was in the right place to collect the ball. Huszti saw his shot then go wide of the post from 20 meters.
The game continued with Vidi comfortably defending their lead and they could have extended it after 77 minutes. Stefan sent a ball in from the right, which found Huszti, but Renan saved well to deny him from under the bar. Joao Paulo curled a free kick in on 83 minutes that landed on the cross bar. The Bulgarians tried hard towards the end to get back into the game while Vidi defended well.
Nego missed a really good chance at the end but it did not matter as the Bulgarian champions could not score in 180 minutes of football past Kovacsik. Vidi now progress into the next round, which will be Q3 and a visit to Sweden to face Malmö.
