The young Slovenian national team played out a 1-1 draw in Austria to remain top of their group
On Friday evening, the Slovenian U21 team played their last European Championship qualifier in Austria, with Vidi striker Nejc Gradisar in the starting line-up. The visitors came into the qualifiers at the top of the table, while the hosts were in third place, having lost 1-0 in Slovenia last autumn.
This time it was the Austrians who took the lead with Ballo's 56th-minute goal, which Vidi striker Nejc Gradisar replied 10 minutes later.
With the 1-1 draw, the Slovenians retained their top spot, but a place in the European Championship is not guaranteed as the second-placed French, currently one point behind, have one more European Championship qualifier to play against Austria in Nancy next Tuesday, while the Slovenians are no longer in action, having played all their qualifiers. Whether they will qualify for the Euros or face a qualifying round will be decided next week, depending on the results of the other matches.
