On Wednesday afternoon, we announced the launch of a series of joint commemorations between the city and the club to mark the anniversary of the fantastic 1984/1985 season in the UEFA Cup.
40 years ago, on 18 September 1984, we played our first match against Dukla Praha in the UEFA Cup qualifying campaign. To mark the anniversary, our club is organising a series of commemorative events in conjunction with the city in the coming months. Mayor Dr. András Cser-Palkovics, Krisztina F. Szegő, Managing Director of the Székesfehérvár Tourism Nonprofit Ltd., Bálint Óházy, Press Officer of Fehérvár FC, and two legends of our club, Ferenc Csongrádi and József Szabó, spoke about this on Wednesday afternoon at the statue of Ferenc Kovács in front of the Sóstói Stadium.
Dr. András Cser-Palkovics pointed out that although it is difficult to get into the history book of Székesfehérvár, which spans 1050 years of history, the Vidi footballers of 40 years ago managed to do so. And the city will commemorate the anniversary with a series of festivities lasting several months. We also learned from the mayor that the Vidi Museum has been enriched with an extremely rare and valuable relic, thanks to the kindness of the chief notary of Székesfehérvár, Dr. Viktor Bóka, who bought a contemporary photograph signed by Ferenc Kovács at an auction and donated it to the Vidi Museum.
Krisztina Szegő F. revealed that in January this year, when the Tourism Ltd. took over the operation of the Vidi Museum, they were already consciously preparing for the 40th anniversary. Until next May, there will be six public meetings at the Sóstói Stadium, where visitors will be able to talk to Vidi legends and watch footage of the UEFA march. The first public meeting will take place on 3 October 2024 at the Sóstói Stadion.
Bálint Óházy said that the club is pleased to participate in the organisation and implementation of the commemorative event together with the city, as the UEFA march is still the greatest success in Vidi's history, which we would like to commemorate in a worthy manner.
Ferenc Csongrádi and József Szabó both emphasized that one of the secrets of the success of the time was that Vidi was characterised by an extremely strong unity and team spirit, all the players were Hungarian and they were not only teammates but also friends. We also learned from the legends that after a long time, the former UEFA Cup players will meet again on Friday afternoon for a dinner in Székesfehérvár.
