Goals from Nego and Scepovic gave Vidi a 2-1 win against Budafok on Wednesday.
Almost two years ago to the day, Vidi were knocked out of the Hungarian Cup against the Budapest side. The two came face-to-face again this afternoon with a place in the last 16 at stake. A total of 7 of the 8 NB I sides made it through with only DVTK suffering defeat so Vidi knew what they had to do.
Manager Marko Nikolic made several changes to his side including players that have had limited match time this season. Hangya, Tamas, Bence Toth, Berecz and Armin Hodzic were all included in the eleven that ran out against the second division side. There was also a start for keeper Tomas Tujvel while veteran Peter Poloskey took his place on the opponents bench.
It was visiting side Vidi that took kick off and they had a chance after 2 minutes: A cross was nicely flicked on towards Scepovic, but keeper Szabo dealt with it. Nego back heeled moments later in front of Scepovic, but the forward was unable to connect with the ball. The cold weather brought out a small crowd and they saw the first goal on 6 minutes: Hangya lifted the ball into the Budafok box, and Nego reacted well to sweetly volley home into the top right corner to make it 0-1.
Berecz took the ball between two defenders after 8 minutes and looked for Hangya, with the defender running in but Szabo was alert and managed to clear. Seconds later Hodzic broke into the area after taking the ball beyond two players, but he over played the ball and the keeper was on hand to deal with it. Budafok had their first chance after 11 minutes following a corner that saw the rebound fall to Vanko, who curled the ball into the hands of Tujvel.
Kovacs dribbled the ball on 13 minutes for the home side and down the wing before sending a sharp ball into the middle, but the assistant referee flagged for offside. Goher controlled a ball inside the area 4 minutes later, before the ball bounced in front of Kercso, who sent a ball over from 17 meters. A long throw in from Goher minutes later was met with three players rising for it, but the header went wide.
The cup tie continued with Berecz shooting following a corner on 23 minutes, which again ended with Szabo saving. Budafok's Fekete then took the ball to the edge of the area on the half hour mark, but chose to shoot from 20 meters, which flew over the bar. The following move came after Hodzic tried with an effort that Szabo caught. Good link up play after 36 minutes resulted with Hangya crossing from the right for Hodzic to race in and powerfully head over. Budafok were back in the game on half time: A cross ended with the ball in front of Balint Olah, who stabbed the ball into the corner of the net (1-1).
Marko Nikolic made a change at half time bringing on Hadzic for Hangya, who had picked up a slight knock. There were 53 minutes played when Vidi could have restored their lead. Nikolov had the ball by the area and shot, which was blocked by a defender, and the ball bounced in front of Hadzic, who could not hit the target from close range.
The home side then had a good chance after 57 minutes after the ball was lost and a move of 3 against 1, but Fekete saw his shot blocked by Toth. Goher just failed to connect with a cross moments later and Tujvel collected the ball.
Berecz was replaced by Milanov and the winning goal came after 79 minutes: Milanov broke into the box and Hodzic made contact with the ball that eventually fell to Scepovic at the far post who scored to make it 1-2. Fiola came on towards the end for the Serbian goal scorer. A cross from Nego on 84 minutes was flicked clear and the ball was volleyed at goal by left back Tamas, but it flew just wide of the post. That was the final action and Vidi made it through to the next round with a 2-1 win.
