Vidi win 2-1 away at FTC in the Hungarian Cup

Headed goals from Juhasz and Vinicius secured MOL Vidi a first leg lead in the Hungarian Cup.

MOL Vidi FC made the journey to NB I leaders FTC in the Hungarian Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday. The first leg being played at the Groupama Arena in Budapest. FTC have not beaten Vidi this season with the away league game ending in a 2-2 draw and the home league match at the MOL Arena Sosto finishing in a 2-1 victory.

It was Fradi that were the more active in the early exchanges but it was Vidi that went ahead after 6 minutes. Huszti's free kick from the wing was headed home by captain Roland Juhasz, who rose the highest to place his header in the corner of the net. Keeper Dibusz did not have a chance to keep it out (0-1).

The game balanced out in the minutes that followed with plenty of battles going on around the pitch. However, neither keeper was called upon to make a save. The score was level after 27 minutes when Leandro turned a defender before curling the ball into the middle for the unmarked Gorriaran to flick the ball into the corner of the net with a header (1-1). The 40th minute included a long range shot from Isael that was comfortably saved by keeper Kovacsik. The final action of the first period saw Signevich head wide of the goal. The two sides went in at the break with the scores level.

The second half was a minute old when the home side scored after Leandro lifted the ball in front of Petryak, and the Ukrainian shot from a tight angle, but the assistant referee flagged for offside and the scored remained at 1-1. It remained that way until the 57th minute when Huszti curled a corner into the middle and Vinicius powerfully headed home from close range (1-2).

Patkai got hold of the ball a couple of minutes later following a free kick to the home team. The midfielder ran towards goal with Scepovic, but Blazic managed to stick his leg out. MOL Vidi defended with good organisation and FTC could not find a way through the tight visiting backline. The referee blew for full time and it is Vidi that will take a 2-1 first leg lead into the second leg at the beginning of April.
