Vasas are aiming for promotion from the NB II this season but attention switches to the Cup.
The Rudolf Illovszky stadium in Budapest is the scene on Wednesday evening. Vidi take on NB II side Vasas in the MOL Hungarian cup in a tie that will kick off at 19:45pm. A place in the final 16 is on offer for the side that progresses. If the score is level at 90 minutes, then there will be 2 x 15 extra time followed by a penalty shootout if necessary. It is 15 years since Vidi first won the Cup by beating Vasas in a final that was settled on penalties.
The Budapest side have been in fine form lately winning 8 of their last 10 competitive games. There was also a draw and a single defeat against Bekescsaba. Vasas have played 23 games this season and have 13 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats with a goal difference of 41-25.
The red and blues top goalscorer is Andras Rado, who was the top goalscorer last season in the NB I. He has so far scored 10 goals for Vasas. Adam Balajti and former Vidi forward Robert Feczesin both have 7 goals each to their name. Another former Vidi player is Mate Patkai who joined them earlier this season. They are managed by Szabolcs Schindler who played for Vidi back in the 1996/97 season.
Vasas have progressed in the MOL Hungarian Cup by beating Senyo 5-1, Egri SE 2-0 to make it through.
