Vidi hit Lombard Papa for five in the OTP league

Vidi controlled the game and scored nice goals away from home.

The Autumn champions visited the home of Lombard Papa on Saturday afternoon. It was officially the first game of the spring season, which was being played in the final week of November, with 2 matches brought forward from early next year. The weather was close to freezing at the Perutz stadium. Papa had proven their strength over autumn as Ujpest, Győr and DVTK all failed to win here, while Ferencvaros suffered a defeat.

Vidi started the match well, although the game was marred in the 5th minute with an unfortunate injury to a home player, which was later confirmed as a serious injury. Roland Juhasz slid in ahead of the Papa player, who could not jump over Juhasz, with the two players colliding. The home player was stretchered off from the pitch and taken straight to hospital. We would like to wish him the best in his recovery.

A nice move after 9 minutes opened the score. Nikolics found himself on the end of that attack and scored a lovely goal from 13 meters to beat Szucs. (0-1). Moments later and Alvarez hit a long range shot, while Nikolics doubled Vidi's lead. Szucs produced a good save at first with the rebound falling to Nikolics who found the far corner of the net with a lovely curling effort. (0-2). The game was more balanced in the minutes that followed. Neither side was able to carve out a chance as the first half continued. However, that changed in the final minute with the third goal for the visiting team. Trebotics was held up on the edge of the box, with the match official giving a free kick. Gyurcso produced a lovely free kick as he found the top right hand corner. (0-3.)

The home side could have scored a consolation goal at the start of the second half, but the Vidi defence blocked the Papa forwards shot. A great chance was then missed on 50 minutes. Alvarez ran alone at goal towards Szucs, but the keeper produced a good save to deny the El Salvador player. There was lots of interesting aspects in the 59th minute as Vidi extended their lead. It began with Popin heading a goal following a cross by Papa's Kenesei. However, the referee did not give it after judging it to be offside. Calatayud took a quick free kick, which went to Kovacs, who then passed it forward to Nikolics, who shot at goal. Szucs reacted well to pull off a good save, but the rebound fell to Nikolics who curled the ball on to the post. Another rebound fell to Stopira, who shot at goal from 15 meters, which Szucs could not keep out. (0-4.)

Feczesin came on and added to the score. Alvarez hit a long range free kick, which Szucs could only parry, and the rebound was converted by Feczesin, who found the back of the empty net from close range (0-5). Feczesin found himself with another good chance a minute later, but Szucs saved his close range strike. There was still time for the home side to have another goal ruled out for offside in the 84th minute. Kleinheisler showed good skill to turn the Papa defenders around, but his shot from 18 meters went wide of the post.

Vidi played really well and comfortably picked up the 3 league points. The result could have been greater with deadlier finishing in front of goal.
