Match Report: Honved score a winning goal near the end

The manager was missing several key players while Adam Lang was sent off.

Videoton begun the new 2015/16 season at the home of Honved on Saturday evening. The manager was missing key players like Feczesin, Vinicius, Mareval and Alvarez.

It was the home side that had more of the possession in the early exchanges of the game. However, it was Vidi who had the first chance of the match on 13 minutes. Kovacs got hold of the ball in the middle and he escaped the challenges of the home defenders, before bringing Ivanovski in to play on the left. However, his cross in to the box was blocked and then cleared. Ivanovski then found Kovacs with a pass six minutes later. The midfielder shot at goal from 14 meters, but once again an opponent was well positioned to clear the danger. A 27th minute Vecsei cross ended with a Youla header, which went over the bar from close range. The first corner for the home side came with seven minutes left of the first half. Youla again headed at goal, and this time it went just wide. The two sides went in at half time with the score at 0-0.

There were no changes made by either manager at half time. The general shape of the game remained unchanged as the second half unfolded. The first real chance in the second period came in the 71st minute. There was a mix up between Lang and keeper Danilovics, which ended with Youla almost taking advantage of the situation. Gyurcso had a 72nd minute free kick from a promising position. He curled the ball over the bar from 18 meters out as Vidi went in search of the opener. The game then changed when referee Vad sent Lang off for his second yellow card. Honved went ahead within a minute of that dismisal. A free kick from the wing found its way to Youla, who sent the ball in to the back of the net (1-0).

There was no real action in front of either goal in the minutes that were left of the nb1 game. Honved emerged 1-0 winners in the season opener. Vidi are next in action in the Champions League Q2, second leg against TNS. Videoton will go in to the game with a 1-0 first leg lead.
