Vidi can only pick up a point at Mezokovesd

Vidi went in to the final league match of the weekend knowing that only a win would be enough. Ferencvaros beat Haladas away from home in the afternoon fixture, which meant that Vidi were squeezed back down to fourth place and a three points difference to make up. Manager José Gomes said before the game that Videoton had to win their last two matches to achieve their target with the fate still in their hands. Opponents Mezokovesd also had to win to stay in the first division, as they went in to the game five points from safety with just six points left.

Videoton started the match well with Nikolics almost putting Vidi in to the lead after a minute. Niko tried to lift the ball over Horvath in the home goal, but the keeper saved that effort. Nikolics again tested Horvath after 4 minutes, and then for the third time shortly after, but the home keeper emerged on top. Szolnoki was called upon to clear in front of goal on 7 minutes, as the right back slid in to stop the forward from shooting. Velicky also did well on the other side as both sides looked to attack the other. There was also good backing from the 150 traveling fans who made the long distance east. The players also fought and battled but they could not find the back of the Mezokovesd goal in the first period.

The cold shower came quickly after half time: Harsanyi beat Szolnoki on the left wing, before passing the ball to Balajti on the far side, who cut the ball back in to the middle for the arriving Melczer to blast home and make it 1-0. Horvarth saved an Alvarez free kick after 54 minutes from under the bar. Balajti could have extended the lead 10 minutes later for the home side. However, Calatayud pulled off a very good save to keep Videoton in the game. Juhasz went forward to add some weight to the Vidi attack and his good header went just wide of the near post.

There were goalscoring chances in front of both goals towards the end. Juhasz was pulled down on the edge of the box and Haraszti curled the resulting free kick in to the net to level (1-1). There were four minutes of injury time and three excellent chances to clinch the win. Juhasz saw his shot saved by Horvath, with the rebound ending up at the feet of Zé Luis, who blasted the ball over the bar from close range. The 94th minute saw an equally good chance spoiled in the end by Nikolics, who with only the keeper to beat, shot off target. The match official blew for full time and the final result was 1-1. 

The draw was no good for either side in the league. Mezokovesd were relegated from the first division with the point not being enough. Vidi will go into the final league match of the season on the 1st June in fourth place. The red and blues will play DVTK at home while FTC will clinch third place if they can beat Paks at home.
