Vidi beat Union Berlin 1-0 thanks to a Feczesin goal

The Germans had more of the ball in the first half. However, a Feczesin goal after 37 minutes ended up splitting the sides.

Vidi were in pre-season action on Sunday morning in nice sunny conditions. They played their second friendly game of the winter preparation period and were up against Bundesliga division two side Union Berlin. The opponent’s biggest success was winning the German cup back in 2001 against Shalke. Union have a squad value of around 17 million euro and finished in 7th place in the second tier most recently.

The game started at a good tempo with players on both sides doing plenty of running. There were also good battles around the pitch to win the ball. Both defences closed down well, which meant that chances were few and far between. The first chance arrived after 13 minutes for the German side. Fürstner lifted the ball above the Vidi defence from 24 meters, which Adam Lang tried to clear with a scissor kick, but the ball fell to Korte, who lobbed the ball over Danilovics, but fortunately the ball did not end up in the goal as it went over the bar.

The game continued at a good pace but we had to wait until the 37th minute for the next serious chance. Rudolf played Stopira in down the left, who played a first time ball in to the middle, which ended with Feczesin arriving in front of goal with a well-timed run to head the ball into the net (1-0). Vidi lost possession inside the opponents half in the final minute of the first period. Union Berlin hit a counter attack, which resulted in American Bobby Wood shooting just wide from 14 meters.

Heffler replaced Simon at half time while the German's remained unchanged. Feczesin provided a good ball down the left for Rudolf on 57 minutes. Rudolf controlled the ball before hitting the far post with a low shot. Manager Ferenc Horvath then made several changes on the hour mark. Only Feczesin and Heffler remained on the pitch as Vidi lined up as follows: Kovácsik - Szolnoki, Vinícius, Szekeres, Fejes - Kiprich, Heffler - Paudits, Sejben, Géresi - Feczesin.

Union Berlin had several dangerous corners in the second period. The 72nd minute saw a corner for Berlin being volleyed by Kreilach that went just wide of the post. Pogatetz then headed at goal from another corner moments later, which required Heffler to clear off his own goaline. The young Vidi players adjusted well after coming on and Geresi showed good skills after 75 minutes. He played in Sejben down the right wing, whose first time cross towards Feczesin was cleared for a corner by the defender. Union Berlin then hit the post with 12 minutes remaining. Kreilach shot at goal from 21 meters, which produced a good stop from Kovacsik, who tipped the ball onto the left post. The opponents tried hard to find the equalizer in the final minutes, but Vidi's defence continued to close down well. Szekeres also slid in to block a long distance shot. Fejes also cleared an effort off the line.

Vidi deserved the win overall against their Bundesliga 2 opponents. They will next be in action on Tuesday afternoon at 15:30pm. Fellow second division side FC Kaiserslautern will be the opponents.
