Monicomp League: Videoton - Siofok 2-0 (0-0) Sandor, Nikolics
It was a good job that the snow was cleared off the pitch on Saturday morning. Videoton produced a professional job, eventually beating a determined Siofok side, that had defended in numbers for the first hour. Snow had fallen overnight leaving the beautiful new pitch under a white blanket. It took a lot of hard work for the ground staff to clear the snow from dawn to kick off. The pitch looked good at the end, perhaps favoring the attacking side.
Siofok came to defend in numbers, which is always hard to break down for any side. Vidi had to remain patient, with manager Gyorgy Mezey opting for a front two of Alves and Nikolics. In fact there were six attacking players in the starting eleven. The turning point came on the hour from a Daniel Nagy corner kick. Siofok failed to pick up Gyorgy Sandor who powerfully met the corner to head home the opener. Videoton did not take their foot of the pedal as they continued to put the pressure on the side, just one place off the bottom two. Clever interplay from Alves and Nikolics resulted in the former laying the ball off for Nikolics to side foot home, with the keeper diving the other way.
The win gives Vidi another important three points, with Ferencvaros not playing today due to the snow, and Kaposvar facing ZTE in one of the other games, the lead at the top of the table could be as much as seven points by the end of Saturday. Bozsovics in the home goal hardly had a shot to save, with the back four looking solid, with both Liptak and Vasko returning from suspensions. Akos Elek was forced to come off at the break with Balazs Farkas taking his place, but hopefully Elek will be fine for next week's away match at Vasas. The game at the Illovszy stadium will be the final league match before the winter break begins.
