Vidi come from behind to beat MTK
Monicomp League Division One Videoton FC - MTK 2-1 (1-1) Goalscorers: Alves, Elek : Frank Szekesfehervar, Att: 3,065 | ||
Videoton did what they had to and picked up all three points on Saturday. In form MTK were the visitors to the Sostoi stadium, in what promised to be an exciting match, with two attacking sides on show. Vidi fielded virtually the same side as last week's game at Vasas, and they were looking to extend their lead at the top of the Monicomp league. Rivals Debrecen lost 3-0 away at Kecskemet on Friday evening, while third place ZTE lost 4-3 at Papa. Videoton began on the attack, looking to get in front as soon as possible. Alves had the first chance of the match, while Nikolics also went close to opening the score. It was a matter of time before Vidi would score against the side 12th in the league. Football is a funny old game and MTK broke away, with Richard Frank managing to get himself into space and lift it over the stranded Bozsovics. However, this failed to knock Vidi back, and they showed spirit to get back in to the match.
Akos Elek went on a good run and was brought down by the MTK keeper, right on half time. Andre Alves smashed the penalty into the top right hand corner to send Vidi in level at the break. That goal came at a crucial time and seemed to take the stuffing out of MTK. The home fans were doing all they could to encourage their side to go forward and get the vital win. Elek looked strong in the middle of the pitch, while Alves was showing glimpses of magic at times. The winner came from a goalmouth scramble, which eventually saw Elek head over the MTK defender on the goal line. The win gives Vidi an important three points, and further strengthens their case for the first league win in the clubs history.
