Videoton FC were back in league action on Saturday with an important game against Kaposvar. With just three matches remaining of the current season, three points would take Vidi a step closer to securing second spot in the table. José Gomes' side would have been boosted by the fact that third place MTK suffered defeat on the same day.
There were chances in front of both goals in the opening minutes, with Alvarez having an effort on goal, while Safaric tried his luck at Tujvel's goal. Kaposvar started positively, which resulted in Tujvel having to make two smart saves early on. Vidi then began to get a foothold on the game, with Paraiba, Torghelle and Mitrovics having chances on Hajduch's goal. The home side then went ahead after a teasing ball in from the right found its way to Alvarez, who lashed home a good shot in to the bottom of the net. Torghelle had done well to leave the ball as he was in an offside position.
Vidi could have extended their lead following that opening goal. Paraiba had a good chance, while Torghelle and Alvarez could have made it two! The match official blew for half time and the sides went in with the Fehervar side leading 1-0.
Kaposvar started the second half by hitting the post to remind Videoton that they were still in the game. Tujvel also did well to save from Vrucina. Kaposvar keeper Hajduch was on hand to deal with Alvarez, who was looking sharp in the match. The red and blues then broke away to extend their lead with a second goal. Alvarez sent a high ball into the box, which Torghelle did very well to head into the path of Kovacs, who steered the ball past the keeper.
A serious injury to Kaposvar player Bole ended with him being taken to hospital with a suspected knee injury. The second goal also affected the visitors, while Vidi could not take advantage of the chances that came their way. With the game looking safe for Vidi, the visitors then got back in to the game. Tujvel saved well, before Thian curled a good shot beyond Tujvel from around 17 meters out.
That made it an exciting last 15 minutes for the supporters at the Sostoi. Toth had the best of the chances in the final minutes of the game, sending a 35 meters shot into the hands of the visiting keeper. The referee blew for full time and Vidi picked up an important 2-1 win. José Gomes' side now travel to Kecskemet next weekend hoping to make second position their own.
