With the newly formed Slovakian state of the 1990's resulted in Slovan joining their domestic league. They became the main team in their country, but failed to dominate as many would have expected despite this. They won the league title in 1999, but then failed to win anything for a long time following that success. However, the trend changed over the last four seasons, when they won the league, finished second, before winning the league again, while finishing third in the most recent league championship last season.

Slovan are managed by Vladimir Weiss, who was the Slovakian national team boss in 2010. They qualified from their group with the Italians, before Holland finally ended their run in the South African World cup. Videoton last met Slovan Bratislava on the 26th January 2011 in a pre-season friendly match. A single Gyorgy Sandor goal was enough to give the red and blues a 1-0 win.
