One goal defeat at the home of Ujpest

There were plenty of chances from both sides with the two keepers in fine form. Ujpest ended up with luck on their side with the only goal.

Looking at the league table in the morning saw Ujpest go into the game in second place in the OTP league table. Vidi were a point and a place behind them so there was everything to play for in this first league game of the spring season. Results earlier in the day meant that by the time the first whistle blew, Ujpest had slipped to fourth place and Videoton fifth, after both Haladas and Debrecen managed to win their games.

Both sides started the game cautiously and there was 20 minutes on the clock before the first real chance of the match. Lencse pulled the ball beyond Juhasz before shooting powerfully from 15 meters, but the ball went wide of the far post. Danilovics then pulled off a good save from a powerful Balogh shot a moment later. The 22nd minute saw a dangerous header from Ujpest defender Heris, but the Vidi keeper again did very well to deny him. Haraszti sent a high ball towards goal after 34 minutes, which ended with Fejes heading just over from close range. The action continued with Suljic winning the ball inside the opponents box, which eventually bounced infront of Nego, who shot low across the goal and keeper Balajcza just got a hand to it. The final chance of the first half resulted in Feczesin being forced under pressure from an Ujpest defender, with his shot going over the bar.

The second half began with Lencse having a chance from a tight angle, but Danilovics got down well to save from the forward. Former Vidi striker, Laszlo Lencse again caused problems for the visiting defence when he showed pace to break inside the box to meet a cross from the left, but he stumbled and failed to make clear contact with the ball.

Nego sent a good long ball forward in the direction of Kovacs, and the midfielder brought the ball down inside the box, before shooting from a tight angle, with the ball hitting the side netting. Vidi then missed the best chance of the game up to that point. Feczesin headed towards goal with just keeper Balajcza ahead of him, and it was the experienced keeper that came out on top as he denied Feczesin with his second goal of the week. Another excellent Balajcza save again denied Feczesin, after the forward was played in by Kovacs, and his shot towards the bottom left corner was saved.

The missed chance would soon prove painful as Ujpest went down the other end. Lencse showed his pace on the right before squaring the ball into the middle for Hazard to slide the ball into the back of the net (1-0). The goal affected Vidi with the home side soon having another chance to extend their lead. However, they could not hit the back of the net and the score remained. Videoton then put plenty of pressure on the home team towards the end of the match. Poloskei curled a free kick on 83 minutes, which was headed back at the far post by Juhasz, for Lang to head at goal, but it hit a defender in front of the goal line. There were chances for both Kovacs and Feczesin in the dying moments of an eventful game, but the match ended with a single goal win for the Budapest side.

Ujpest moved back up to second with this win, while Vidi are in 5th place with 30 points. Bekescsaba visit the Pancho Arena next week in another league match.
