INTERVIEW

"My goal is to be successful with Vidi and have a good season individually"

We also talked to András Huszti about his active childhood, his experiences and his plans. Interview.

You arrived at the club just before the training camp, how do you feel, did your teammates quickly accept you?

Fortunately, my arrival has been easy so far, there are a lot of familiar faces in the dressing room. I played with several of them in the national youth team, Puskas and ZTE. It all happened really quickly, I had my medical on Wednesday last week and on Monday I left for the training camp with the team. I had a few days to prepare, I was welcomed in a friendly atmosphere, so everything is fine so far.

Tell us a little bit about your beginnings, when did you start playing football?

When I was a little boy, I was - to put it mildly - very active. At school, my parents were told that it would be good to take the child somewhere to relax his energy (laughs). So I took up football at the age of eight and quickly took a liking to the sport.

After your early years in Pécs, you moved to Szombathely at the age of 13. How do you remember these years?

I came to Szombathely in the seventh grade of primary school, to the Illés Academy. I moved to a dormitory, my family moved around a lot, so I wasn't alone at a young age. Despite the distance, we spent a lot of time together. I am grateful to them for always supporting me and helping me a lot in my career.

You were a striker before, how did you become a fullback?

I really started as a striker, then at a junior tournament we ran out of fullbacks and our coach asked who could play fullback. I tried to hide, but he chose me (laughs). The change went well, so I stuck with that position.

In 2018 you came to Tiszakécske and made your debut in NB II. What was it like to make it to the senior side at such a young age?

It was a strange feeling. I was 17, I thought I was a big boy who knew a lot. Then I stepped into the NB II dressing room, the real adults, and very soon I found out that I wasn't (laughs). I gained valuable experience, it was actually where I learned what it was like to play football at adult level.

A year later, it was time for the top. You also played in Felcsút, Budafok, Zalaegerszeg and Újpest.

They were great years, I made many friends and acquaintances everywhere. In Zalaegerszeg I experienced the highlight of my career so far, when we won the MOL Hungarian Cup in 2023.

Which position do you like to play and what are your strengths?

As a wing-back, because I can do my share of defending and attacking alongside the line. My strength is physicality, which I have been consciously strengthening in recent years, and I can also help the team with my speed.

You have mentioned your family, who else has helped you in your career?

I have many people to thank, I couldn't list them all. In Szombathely, at the Illés Academy, Catalin Azoitei and Csordás Csaba gave me a lot. I'd also like to mention Ricardo Moniz, who taught me a lot, and Géza Mészöly also helped me a lot in Újpest.

You have already played for the junior national team, are you thinking about the adult national team?

The dream of every young kid who has ever started playing football is to represent his country, and it's no different for me. But to do that, I need to improve a lot and work hard, I need to have good seasons in a row to have a chance of making the senior national team.

What is your goal at Vidi?

I'm happy to be at a club with such a great history. My goal is to be successful with Vidi and to have a good season individually.
