MOL Vidi FC take on Puskas Academy in the first league game of 2019

The second half of the 2018/19 league season kicks off on Saturday with MOL Vidi FC entertaining Puskas Academy at the MOL Arena Sosto.

Ninth in the table Puskas Academy FC have been in ninth place since the 29th September. Although their final game of 2018 earned them a valuable win over Mezokovesd, they are just a point behind 8th placed Paks and 3 adrift of Mezokovesd. They also replaced former manager Miklos Benczes with Andras Komjati, and from 2019, Hungarian and German dual national Janos Radoki. There were not too many changes on the playing side during the winter break. Laszlo Zsidai departed and five returned to the first team squad. Those included Daniel Prosser who had been on loan, Nandor Tamas and Gyorgy Komaromi were promoted from the youth set-up. Bulgarian Kamen Hadzhiev and Richard Krizan were two more to be moved up.

There are several Vidi connections with both the coaching side and their playing squad: Imre Hajnal is their masseur, while Attila Polonkai was a former title winning member who also works for today’s opponents. Balazs Toth is their director of football, but they also have Jozsef Varga, Braniszlav Danilovics and former three times title winner Roland Szolnoki within their playing ranks. The Felcsut club flew out on the same plane as Vidi to their training camp in Spain. They played four friendly games out there during their pre-season. There was a draw against Champions’ League group stage side Viktoria Plzen and they also beat Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia.
