Match Report: Spring season begins with a defeat

The Puskas Academy came away with a 3-0 win on Saturday evening at the MOL Arena Sosto.

The 2018/2019 spring season kicked off on Saturday afternoon with a game against the Puskas Academy FC at the MOL Arena Sosto. Vidi went into the match having a 100% home record against the Felcsut club. Istvan Kovacs, Anel Hadzic and Paulo Vinicius were all missing through suspension. Akos Elek came in for his first start after 7 years away. There was a minutes silence before the game for two long serving men who sadly passed away last week. Lajos Horvath and Lajos Nemeth were both good servants of the club.

The last game between the two had been played in a hot atmosphere and referee Kassai showed his first yellow card after just 40 seconds. Defender Bokros fouled Scepovic to go into the book. The visiting team then went ahead on 7 minutes through a long range strike by Urblik, which found the top left corner (0-1).

The minutes that followed were mainly in the middle of the pitch. Rado curled a ball into the middle after 20 minutes, which found the unmarked Urblik, but his flick failed to find the goal.

A free kick from the side after 25 minutes was taken by Huszti and Elek headed at goal from 8 meters, which produced a good save from Hegedus. Scepovic took the ball along the right on the half hour, before sending in a sharp ball from the corner, with Nego attempting to reach it in the middle, but he could not make contact with his head and the ball crossed the face of the goal and the danger escaped. There were 43 minutes on the clock with a lovely cross coming in from Stopira, which both Scepovic and Huszti ran in for, with the former heading it wide.

The half time break saw Elek replaced by Hodzic, who brought Stopira into play after 53 minutes. The left back shot at goal from 7 meters, which Hegedus saved. A shot by Vega a minute later was well saved by Vidi keeper Kovacsik. Huszti sent in a fine ball on the hour mark, and the cross ball was nicely brought down by Hodzic, who then shot from a tight angle to bring out a good save from Hegedus.

A corner taken by Nikolov 5 minutes later was headed at goal by Juhasz, but Hegedus was again well placed to save, with the rebound seeing Milanov lay the ball into the path of Huszti, who from 10 meters blasted the ball over the bar. A ball forward on 71 minutes found Kiss, who released Rado, with the forward aiming for the far corner and finding it to make it 0-2. A Nego cross was headed at goal by substitute Futacs after 78 minutes, but Hegedus did well to deny him. A long distance shot from Hodzic went wide of the Puskas post shortly after.

With 2 minutes remaining of the game, Latifi crossed from the left and Arabuli was unmarked in the middle to find the back of the net and make it 0-3. Krisztian Tamas suffered an injury in the 91st minute and he was stretchered off, before Futacs headed a Nego cross wide to make the final score 0-3.

Vidi are next in action at home to DVTK next weekend after beginning the spring season with a defeat.
