A first half Marko Scepovic penalty gave Vidi the 3 points on Wednesday evening. However, the game was overshadowed by the injury to midfielder Istvan Kovacs.
Vidi went into the match on Wednesday evening at the home of Gyirmot with the knowledge thate a win would take them back to the top of the table. Honved had suffered a 2-0 away loss to DVTK on Tuesday, which gave Videoton the opportunity to take advantage of.
Henning Berg made changes to his team to that which started against Vasas at the weekend. Szolnoki and Lazovic were both serving bans, which meant that they would not feature against bottom placed Gyirmot. Stopira had muscle ache on Tuesday and he had to miss out and rest his leg. Fiola, Geresi, Maric, Varga and Kovacs all started the game. Gyirmot player Andras Simon suffered an injury in the warm up and that forced the home side into a late change. He had to be taken to hospital for a check up.
The game kicked off and it was Vidi that had the early 2nd minute chance. Nego found himself in front of the Gyirmot goal, but the home keeper Nagy managed to clear the danger. The next moment of action arrived after 17 minutes. Roland Juhasz found himself on the floor inside the box after being squeezed out by Adam Simon in dubious circumstances. However, the match official waved play. The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute when Gyirmot player Bojovic fouled Nego inside the box. Referee Gergely Szots pointed straight at the spot. Scepovic stood behind the ball and sent the keeper the wrong way to put Vidi ahead (0-1).
The teams went in at the break with the Fehervar side leading. The second half started with a chance for Maric. His shot from 17 meters was on target, but keeper Sandor Nagy was alert and saved the effort. Vidi continued to press and a minute later, Geresi sent a ball in from the win to the unmarked Scepovic, who arrived at the far post, but he could not connect cleanly.
The match then witnessed an unfortunate incident with an injury to Istvan Kovacs. The midfielder was very unlucky as he fell on the surface and suffered a break to his left hand. The ambulance came on to the pitch to take the player to hospital. He is expected to have an operation this evening.
The home side had their only chance on 68 minutes: Novak shot as he was being squeezed by Nego, and Kovacsik pulled off a good save from 10 meters. Scepovic could have scored a goal in both the 74th and 75th minute. The first was from a tight angle, which went wide of the empty goal. Then Geresi put in a cross but he did not connect cleanly, and Kiss managed to clear the danger from his own goal line.
Hadzic curled a free kick from 18 meters with 5 minutes remaining. Nagy again did well to deny Vidi and saved the ball, which was heading in the top right corner. The 92nd minute saw home defender Bori pull down Geresi, who was the final man and in with a chance on goal. He was shown a red card and the home side were reduced to 10 men. The final moment of the match went to Hadzic, who took a dangerous free kick, which was again saved by the Gyirmot keeper.
Videoton picked up an important 3 league points against a massive defensive Gyirmot team, which had five men at the back. With Vasas, Ferencvaros and Honved all losing their midweek matches, it meant that Vidi returned to the top of the table. They face Mezokovesd at the Pancho Arena on Saturday.
