Mátyás Kovács made his debut in a competitive match against Sumqayit. He also commented on the match in Azerbaijan and the anticipation before the league opener against Kecskemét.
You arrived in Azerbaijan after a long journey, how did you prepare for the match?
After we got on the plane, we could only prepare mentally for the match against Sumqayit, as we didn't have much of a chance physically. I think the team successfully overcame the travel difficulties and I'm happy that we were able to start with a win in the Conference League.
The start of the game saw the Azeri's have more of the ball, what was the reason for the difficult start?
It was indeed difficult for us to start the match, we were not fresh, which was due to the long journey. After 20 minutes we settled down, maybe the goal we conceded shook us up and after the sending off we were in control of the game.
You entered the game in the 57th minute of the second half. How did you feel in your first ever Conference League match?
I felt very good on the pitch, I'm happy to have made my debut for Vidi. And even better that we ended our trip to Azerbaijan with a win.
There is no time to rest, the season starts for us on Sunday in Kecskemét. What are you expecting in the opening round of the NB I?
Of course we want to win against KTE, but it will not be an easy task. It's very difficult to play in Kecskemét, not only because of the strong opponent and the atmosphere, but also because the pitch hasn't been the best for playing on in the past. The new turf will at least change the latter. We will try to freshen up before Sunday, rest up, so that we can give a hundred percent for this match and start the season well.
