Istvan Kovacs named in the Hungarian squad

"I am delighted to have been named in the final Hungarian squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers. Was it a surprise for me? Well that is a good question as I have not had too much match time this season at Vidi. National team manager Bernd Storck had earlier said that he was counting on me, and there have been examples in the past that he has given a chance to a player who has not played too much football for his club. Fortunately, I managed to perform well in training last week, and in a practise game against the U21 side. We have worked very hard at Telki, and I feel that I need this due to the limited amount of games I have played this season. I have also spoken to the national team manager, and he told me what he expected from me. I need to show more when it comes to defending. I feel that I did well in the Europa League game against Midtjylland, which helped my cause. Bernd Storck told me that he was expecting similar performances from me to that game. I will not be sitting back and I would like to be in the travelling party that goes out to the Faros Islands. It was also be great to be able to play in that match. I will do everything I can, but there are many good players in the national squad, so it will not be easy to get into the team. The qualifying group is also not too easy. We have Portugal and Switzerland in there so I am sure they will be very difficult games" - commented Istvan Kovacs to the club Website.
