Five interesting things to know before the match against FTC

We take a look back over time in our matches with FTC.

In the 24th round of the OTP Bank Liga our team will play against Ferencváros in the MOL Arena Sósto on Sunday at 17:00. To get you in the mood for the match, we have collected five interesting facts.

1. Overall record

From 1968 to the present day, the two teams have played 106 matches against each other in the top division, with Vidi winning 27 times, FTC 50 times and 29 draws. Our first NB I championship match against Ferencváros was won by the Green and Whites 1-0 in 1968, while our team achieved its first success in a home match in the 1971/1972 season, which ended 4-3. In the matches so far, the average number of goals scored has been 2.6, the most in the aforementioned 4-3 win in 1972 and a 5-2 victory for Vidi in 1980. The goal difference in the matches is 167:113 in favour of Ferencváros.

2. The greatest Vidi victories

Almost exactly eleven years to the day before Sunday's match, on 12 March 2011, we won the biggest tie in the history of our club's NB I history at the home of Ferencváros. In the match played in the old Albert Stadium in front of around 10 000 spectators, goals from André Alves, Dusan Vasiljevic, László Lencse, Marko Andjics and Attila Polonkai gave György Mezey's side a 5-0 victory, which also saw them claim the first league title in the club's history at the end of the season, while FTC finished third that season. The 5-0 victory was also special because no non-Budapest team had ever won a league game by such a margin at Üllői út. We have won three times by three goals against the IX. district team, 3-0 in 1977, 5-2 in 1980 and 4-1 in 2017.

A summary of the 5-0 win in 2011:

3. Big change at Sóstó

We played one of our most memorable home games against Ferencváros almost 30 years ago, in November 1992: goals from Lipcsei and Balogh gave the Greens a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute, which they held until half-time, but in the second half we turned the game around within four minutes. Between the 58th and 62nd minutes, Ferenc Horváth scored twice and Zoltán Németh once, which allowed the 18,000 fans at Sóstói Stadion to celebrate a Vidi victory after the final whistle.

Summary of the match:

4. The most successful active player

The most active player of the Vidi and Ferencváros matches is currently in our team: our captain, Nemanja Nikolic has played in 18 matches against FTC in the red-blue, scoring seven times against the green-and-whites, and he has also scored in the Hungarian Cup. Niko will have the chance to break the club record on Sunday, as well as increasing his goals against Fradi, and our striker would be the only player in the all-time goalscoring charts after a goal against FTC, currently tied with József Szabó with 111 goals.

5. The date: March 13.

The last time we played an NB I championship game on the day of the match on Sunday was in 2010, when we won 2-0 against Papa with goals from André Alves and Nikolic. We played Ferencváros in 1983 on the 13th March, a match won 2-0 by the Green and Whites, and in 2019 we beat them 2-1 in the Hungarian Cup semi-final with goals from Roland Juhász and Paulo Vinícius, an important step towards winning the cup.

Our Ukrainian winger Ivan Petryak, our former club manager and midfielder Győző Burcsa, three of our former players Mihály Tímár, Zsolt Kellner and Dávid Macsicza, as well as our 2018 championship team coach Goran Basarics were born on the day of the league game against FTC.
