Ferencvaros win the league cup final

The green and whites win the cup for the first time in their history

In beautiful sunny weather, and in front of around 6,200 supporters, the Sostoi stadium played host to the league cup final. This was the first of two games this week, with the pair meeting again on Sunday in the OTP league.

The first 20 minutes passed off without any major incident as both sides tested each other. Istvan kovacs did have a shot on goal after 14 minutes, but it was dealt with by FTC keeper Jova. The Budapest side then went ahead in the 21st minute. Jozsi's corner found it's way to Cukic, who headed the ball into the corner of the net. Vidi came straight back into the game very quickly. Alvarez hit a long free kick from the half way line towards goal. Mitrovics controlled the ball well, although his first attempt was blocked by a defender, his second shot ended in the back of the net. The third goal of the match came very soon after when Ferencvaros restored their lead. Somalia took the ball to the goalline, before cutting the ball back for Jenner, who lashed the ball in after 26 minutes. The green and whites then made it 3-1 just before half time. A quick build up from FTC, ended with Aborah putting the ball beyond Bozsovics.

Vidi tried very hard in the second half to cut the deficit and come back into the game. Brachi curled his free kick after 47 minutes from 25 meters out, but the alert Jova watched the ball go around the post. Kovacs could have scored after 67 minutes, but his powerful long-range shot missed the goal by inches. Ferencvaros made the game safe on 71 minutes. Once again the ball fell to Aborah who converted from close range to make it 4-1. Somalia headed the final goal of the match on 77 minutes to make the final score 5-1 to FTC, who lifted the league cup for the first time in their history.
