Videoton were unable to win at a stadium where they last emerged victorious twelve years ago. Storm clouds gathered ahead of kick off at the Olah Gabor stadium. However, the rain kept away and the game proved an exciting one. Manager José Gomes made changes to his regular line up. In came Tujvel in goal, while Vinicius partnered Juhasz at the heart of the Vidi defence. Szolnoki began the game at left back, while young Brazilian forward Paraiba played a support role to Torghelle.
The game started at a fast pace, and it soon became clear that both sides were going for the win. The 7000 supporters inside the tight stadium also helped to create a nice atmosphere. Chances were limited in the opening exchanges. Gyurcso had a good run, while Torghelle headed just over, with Kovacs also curling a shot at the Debrecen goal. The home side also had chances through Bodi and a Ferenczi cross inside the first 25 minutes.
Vidi then went ahead in the 29th minute, following a nice move. Mitrovics split the defence open, as he has done in so many games. His ball found Kovacs, whose shot was parried into the path of the waiting Torghelle, and the experienced frontman made no mistake. Vinicius was unlucky to suffer an injury, with Caneira coming on in his place, as the backline re-grouped.
Juhasz and Coulibaly clashed shortly after inside the box. Referee Vad pointed at the spot, while Vidi's centre back picked up a caution. Ferenczi took the spot kick, sending his shot straight into the hands of the diving Tujvel, who made a good save to keep Videoton's lead. It seemed as if the visitors would go in at the break leading 1-0. However, Debrecen drew level in the 39th minute. The goal came from the feet of Bodi, before the half time interval.
José Gomes' side had the first chance of the second half, with Kovacs picking up the ball inside the box, with a home defender stretching his leg out to divert the shot onto the post. Debrecen made a change at half time, with Poloskei being replaced by Kulcsar, and it was the latter who gave the home side the lead after 55 minutes. He broke towards goal, before taking the ball round Tujvel to poke the ball in to the back of the net.
There were chances in front of both goals in the remaining minutes of the game. Gomes pushed Juhasz upfront to add power and options to the attack. Vad blew for full time, with Vidi keeping their second place in the OTP table despite the defeat. Kaposvar are next up at the Sostoi stadium next weekend.
