Juhasz headed two past Szucs while topscorer Nikolics also added one against Papa.
"Finally!" - came the word from the mouths of many supporters, as they took their place in the Sostoi stadium stands. The 2014-15 season has begun after many long weeks, with lovers of Hungarian football waiting a long time. Trebotic made his debut in the starting line-up, while both Adam Simon and Andras Fejes came on as second half substitutes.
A long range Kenesei free kick was the first chance of the game in the second minute. Calatayud, as you would expect from him, saved confidently. Nikolics had an effort on 8 minutes, but his shot was deflected for a corner. Kovacs hit the bar from the resulting corner from 16 meters out. There was another chance four minutes later when Gyurcso made keeper Lajos Szucs work, with the veteran confidently saving. There was yet another crossbar for the home side after 17 minutes when Brachi's free kick came thundering off the woodwork.
Captain Gyorgy Sandor was also in the mood for shooting, and his 23rd minute effort from distance was again dealt with by Szucs. The home crowd remained patient as they waited for the opening goal. They were celebrating together in the 28th minute following a curling free kick from Gyurcso, which was powerfully headed home by defender Roland Juhasz. Szucs could only get a hand to the header but it went in to the corner to make it (1-0). Kenesei had a good chance on 33 minutes, as his close range shot was well saved by Calatayud. With a minute remaining of the first half, Kovacs slid in for a challenge on the half way line, which referee Vad judged as a straight sending off. Videoton went in at the break a man down.
Neither side made a change at the break, and the pattern of the game also remained unchanged, although Vidi, with a player less, managed to press their will on their opponents. Brachi sent a ball forward after 63 minutes, which keeper Szucs reacted badly to as he came out of his goal, with Juhasz beating the Papa keeper to head the ball in to the empty net (2-0). Substitute Kleinheisler won a penalty after he was challenged inside the box. Nikolics confidently placed the ball in to the back of the net to make it (3-0). Papa failed to show any danger in the remaining 20 minutes of the match, and if Vidi would have had a little more luck, then they could have extended their lead, but Brachi's nice cross in to the middle saw Nikolics just fail to connect.
The final result was 3-0 with Vidi confidently winning despite being a man down. The season continues next week with another match at home to Dunaujvaros.
