Vidi pick up an important win at the home of Debrecen

A first half goal from Loic Nego secured MOL Vidi all 3 points on Sunday evening.

MOL Vidi were in action at the home of Debrecen in the final league match of the weekend. Match 15 of the season saw Marko Nikolic' team visit the side 7th in the table at the Nagyerdei stadium. It was another game in a difficult series, which also sees Vidi travel to BATE on Wednesday ahead of the Europa League group stage game.

The home side had to do without some players including Haris Tabakovic, Balazs Benyei and Erik Cikos. Also out was the suspended Kinyik and Norbert Konyves who suffered a knock in training during the week. Vidi had Huszti missing while manager Nikolic went with a front two of Marko Scepovic and Armin Hodzic.

Kovacsik was on hand to deny Szecsi after 5 minutes, while Avdijaj also had a header saved. Nego had the first chance for the visiting side with a shot from 18 meters at the other end. Keeper Kovacsik was again in the right place after 9 minutes. Juhasz had a header go just wide shortly after in an eventful start to the game. A ball forward on 12 minutes was held up by Scepovic, who then released Hodzic, whose low ball in to the middle almost ended with Hadzic scoring, but Kusnyir was able to clear the danger.

The bright start was followed by a quiet 15 minutes with few chances at either end. Hodzic had a shot in the middle of the first half, which went over the bar, while Hadzic brought a save out of the Debrecen keeper with the ball going out for a corner. Hodzic was again in with a chance on goal, but his lovely left footed shot bounced back off the crossbar. Debrecen captain Tozser tested Kovacsik after 32 minutes, with the Vidi keeper again doing really well. A cross from Fiola a couple of minutes later found Nego, whose effort was collected by keeper Nagy. The breakthrough arrived after 40 minutes with Vidi taking the lead. The Debrecen keeper threw the ball out, but it was headed back into his half by Juhasz, and Scepovic helped the ball on and into the path of Nego, who calmly rounded the keeper and found the back of the net (0-1).

The two sides went in at the break with the visitors leading by a single goal. The second half began with two chances from Tozser in the first 10 minutes. Both ending with Kovacsik coming out on top. The first chance produced a very good save from the Vidi keeper. Takacs had a chance after 60 minutes but he could not find the equaliser. Tozser was again causing problems for the Vidi defence with his curling shot, which Kovacsik nicely saved. The home side pushed forward in search of the leveller, but they found a Vidi defence that was again hard to get past. MOL Vidi hit the home side on the counter attack a couple of times, but they could not double the lead. The 5 minutes of injury time included a shot from Ferenczi for DVSC, which flew across the face of the goal. Vidi midfielder Berecz also got through on goal following a Kovacs pass, but a defender was on hand to block the shot. Takacs could have drawn the home side level a couple of minutes later, but the defence was again strong.

Nego's first half goal was enough to collect the 3 points and move up to second in the OTP league table. The gap with leaders FTC is 5 points. Vidi are next in action on Thursday evening in Belarus when they play BATE in the group stage of the Europa League.
